One should know the hotel is one of TWO on top of the Hruba Skala "mountain". The more medieval one is right next door, is bigger, has better views over the reserve and the region. So don't mistake one for the other. Still I would recommend Stekl, for its charm and price/quality. We were lucky with the weather, and whenever we felt like "a view", we went for a drink at the other castle's terrace. Only one thing Stekl could improve: add a few hooks in the bathroom to hang clothes and towels :-)

There is a lot to like about this place: the location right next to the entrance of the Bohemian paradise (do try the Mouse Hole entrance right across the car park; it's one of the best parts of the reserve), the very, very friendly staff, the breakfast buffet being-as-it-should-be, the area, and ... the terrace at the castle next door. Also the hotel itself has this HerculePoirot-like atmosphere - which is very inspiring.

Rooms can get hot on summer days - a ventilator is supplied, but no air conditioning. If you’ve got heavy luggage you’ll be lugging it up the stairs.

Old fashioned elegance if you like that and I do. I was reminded of stately houses in English film and TV like Downton Abbey, Gosford Park and more. REALLY nice staff. polite. friendly and helpful. Cesky Raj is stunningly beautiful.

Location is perfect - right next to the castle Hruba Skala, close to the start of walking trails, an absolutely gorgeous setting. Room was beautiful, quiet, and well-equipped. The bed was comfortable and there was a wide variety of breakfast options available. Would definitely stay here again!

A very nice hotel in a beautiful building in the Bohemian paradise. A good breakfast was included and we used the "menu" dinner every night, which consisted of 3 course traditional czech dinner for a really good price.

But the restaurant is available only for breakfast and late dinner, the prices are a bit above average and meals are kind of half portion.

Hotel is a very romantic site, actually more of a castle than the nearby castle itself. Rooms are clean and nicely repaired. All the place is very decent and a spirit of "good old times" is all around. Staff is friendly and a safe parking place is included.

There is not much to do after 7 PM, the hour on which the restaurant closed at least during my visit.

The aspect of the building was fantastic, the room was cleaned to perfection and was shining and all the plumbing seems brand new.

Fridge in the room made quite some noise & the beds were not really long.

Amazing location with direct access to the must sees areas in Hruba Skala. Available free parking for hotel guests & very friendly staff. We also ate in the restaurant & were positively surprised. It was delicious! Beware that it’s a hotel where they kept the traditional retro style, but we found it charming & it gave a special touch to the place.

We were on the third floor. The stairs are quiet steep, so either you work on your condition or in case you can’t, you ask for a room on the lower levels ;0)

The location is perfect for visiting the Hubra Skala. During the day the spot is busy, but as a hotel guest you can visit early or later in the afternoon and the place is yours. Around the corner you find a nice terrace within the castle to enkoy the view on the hubra skala. The restaurant of the hotel serves dinner for a very reasonable price. The food is fresh and of good quality. The staff of the hotel is very kind and helpful. The rooms are simple, but have everything you need.
