Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyIt was better than I thought because I have heard some horror stories from other a&o locations. The room was clean the personal was nice, the price was ok and it was overall a pleasant experience. We stayed there because of a concert and to sleep in it it was optimal.

ItalySturdier pillows would be way more comfortable; bed rails were dusty.
Very kind staff who helped me finding a good place to have dinner even though it was super late; central location with tram stops and many restaurants nearby; cozy common room open 24h.

AustraliaEfficient clean and cheap. A&O can be a little on the cheap side, but this one was good. No problems (except a guy snoring. Hostels really should separate snorers. I don’t like waking up every morning of a holiday exhausted because SNN NOORRERRREEE all night)

JapanThere were stains on the pillows and duvet. The tram stop from Dusseldorf Central Station is a bit distant from the hotel.
A simple youth hostel, but quiet and conveniently situated in front of a tram stop. The room was basic yet sufficient.

GreeceYou can close but you cannot lock the doors at your room and the main building entrance door was without lock or close mechanism , it was broken so someone could go from the street straight to the rooms. No safe box in the rooms , only in reception area.
The location was perfect , the staff excellent and the room itself clean .

GermanyThe only thing I can think of is that the walls are quite thin. We can hear doors being opened outside or people talking. Not really nice for people who are looking for a quiet surrounding. It's not a really big problem for me (as I stay only 2 nights), but please be aware for people who are sensitive to sounds
The location is quite close to the train station, we can walk there or take the Tram (there is a tram stop near the hotel). We booked the private room so the bathroom is inside. Toilet and shower are in separate rooms so my friend and I can prepare ourselves at the same time. Facilities are okay for short stay, bed is quite comfy.

GermanyI dont know if it was because our rooms were facing the main street, but wow - you could hear every sound all night - single pane glass? the windows were closed, but you could feel the air coming through the window fixtures.. I woke up probably 5-6 times throughout the night and im a pretty heavy sleeper. I've stayed at other a&o properties and understand the budget aspect, im ok with that, but this stay was not worth the money for us. We will probably look for a other option when we revisit dusseldorf.

Bosnia and HerzegovinaOne bad thing is that one pillow was a bit smelly (a bad odor). Couldn't say if it's not clean or something they are using to wash the pillows gave it a bad smell. So, I had to use the other pillow and it wasn't smelly.
The bathroom was clean and did satisfy my usage without hassle. The room was nice, I had a twin bed and was comfy enough for 1-night stay. The person working on the reception, Leon I believe his name was, was a cool dude, communicative and was pleasant to talk with. The lobby downstairs is cool and has a nice vibe. You can buy yourself a beer, snacks etc The location is 15mins from Hauptbahnhof (main station). There is a tram that goes to Berliner-Alle which can cut the travel time. A 15min walk is fast enough, so I resorted to walking there. AO hostel is easy to find.
