Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomIt's not their fault but it's a noisy neighbourhood, especially on Saturday night.
A comfortable small flat in the center of Mainz, well-appointed and with a comfortable bed.

CanadaEverything was perfect
It is a sweet, small apartment in a very old house. It looks much better than in pictures. It's absolutely spotless, has lots of character, there is everything you need. It is very close to the train station,5 min walk, very close to the old city and restaurants. The hosts, Ilona and Peter, are absolutely delightful. They speak very good English, are friendly and helpful. Despite being close to the main road, it was very quiet. The bed is very, very comfortable . We had a great sleep. Thanks Ilona and Peter was a lovely experience. I do t hesitate to recommend this place at all. If you are looking for modern place, that's not it but the old char of this apartments are very hard to find these days.

AustraliaThe kitchen which is really a kitchenette, so you can not really prepare a serious meal. As the host said, 'mainly for doing your bacon and eggs etc for breakfast'.
The location is simply ideal if you want to be in the heart of the old town. Once you step out the front door you are there. The apartment itself is small but functional and comfortable. The secure parking albeit it is in a parking garage is a plus, but remember you pay in addition for the parking.

GermanyI liked the size of the apartment^^... There was Coffee and Tea and variety of spices (i had many trips where there were only salt and pepper or no spices^^°°°...).. The bed was comfortable and we were right in the center... Within minutes we've been to the water, downtown and the citadel... It was a really great trip and i would definitely book that apartment again^^.. Thank you^^..

GermanyFrom the outside, the building looks rather ugly and worn, and also the hallway to the apartment is not truly inviting. Furthermore, no shampoo or shower gel was available.
A nice, shabby chique studio apartment in the old quarters of Mainz. Even though the apartment is located on the ground floor, plenty of daylight enters through the windows at the front and back.

CanadaWe were super happy with this beautiful characterful apartment in its excellent location right near the Dom and old town and only 350 metres from Mainz Römisches Theater train stop (which has a direct link to Frankfurt airport). The bed and bedding were recently updated and were very comfortable. The owner is delightful too! We highly recommend this apartment : )

GermanyNothing.
This is a gem of a place! One is steps away from the Altstadt but still in a quiet area. It does not look like a hotel but rather one feels like a resident. It has a small kitchen which is perfect for breakfast and lunch fixings. One can easily go "home" and have a quick bite and return to the town easily. There are also a number of nice restaurants in the immediate area. It is near the Römisches Theater train station (not the Hauptbahnhof) so it is especially easy to access by rail. The hosts have some nice amenities (coffee machine AND coffee, wine glasses, hot water kettle) that are not always found in similar arrangements. The hosts plan to meet visitors personally to hand over keys (but I had old information in my booking.com account so they could not contact me when I was late). However, they were still lovely and provided the information I needed.

NetherlandsNothing.
Excellent location in the Altstadt - the traditional city centre. The property is located in a quiter part of the Altstadt and yet very near to the many restaurants, museums and shops. Futhermore, there are good public transport connections to the Hauptbahnhof from the Römischer Theater station which is near to the property.

GermanyThe heating was making sounds and didn’t really heat up. It wasn’t that bad because the weather was quite nice and I didn’t really need the heating.
The apartment was super clean. The host was super friendly and helpful. The apartment is really close to the old town and public transport. There was a water cattle, tea, coffee machine with coffee and even some water in the fridge. Had a really good time in Mainz

GermanyThe apartment is in a house that needs restoration. It looks a bit shabby from the outside. What bothered us most was that there was a kind of moldy smell both in the house and the apartment which we did not get out, even with all windows open. The apartment consists of a spacious bathroom, a tiny little kitchenette and one more room with a bed that sleeps two, a desk with TV, two armchairs and a small table which can be enlarged, to sit down and eat. Then, however, you can hardly move any more, it’s getting very packed in the room then. What’s also missing is a closet or a bigger shelf to store clothes while you stay.
The apartment is located right in the center of Mainz. It is in a quiet street and you can walk all your ways from there. The hosts were very communicative, supportive and friendly.
