Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesWhen we first arrived at Hotel Fame, we had to figure out ourselves to go to a nearby Hotel (Hotel Lillianhof) to checkin. This was not particularly bad, but it was initially confusing especially for tourists like ourselves. The bed cushion was uncomfortable and uneven. Floors were not thoroughly swept and vacuumed when we arrived. The Wi-Fi was very inconsistent. There was no cleaning service. There were no amenities provided. Be prepared to climb multiple stairs on the way to your room! Be prepared to pay a “tourist tax”. Each room has a heater, but be warned: there is no AC.
Location is great. It is very conveniently located next to the central station of Hamburg. Our room had a spacious bathroom and a small television. We were given both a key and a card to access our room.

NetherlandsNo breakfast served and no possibility for this. It was decently clean and personal was okay albeit a bit rude/short (seemed to be a thing in Hamburg). Beds were unsupportive and soft.
Really the only thing good about this hotel was the location and how close it was to the station.

MaltaAt Check-In, the price was suddenly 4 EUR more and you couldn‘t pay by card, meaning that with credit card fees, the price was 10 EUR more than expected. Entering the property, there were lots of stairs. Luckily, staff helped us carrying the suitcases up. Next to our room were people partying until late, loud music and laughing. Staff seemed aware, shut them down once but never came again to check on them and they continued of course. The room was ice cold, all windows were open when we entered, it took approx 1 hr to be comfortable. Check Out is advertised on Booking.com as 11-11:30 but at 10:58 someone opened the door to (for lack of better wording) throw us out.

GermanyThe rooms are in another place, and i think it belongs to other hotel (Hotel Lilienhof ) - Which is where the reception is and there you can check in, nobody was there, and i waited there for 15 minutes, until the receptionist came. The building where the rooms are is not clean at all, smell very dirty, as the garbage bins are just inside in the entrance, and is staying under the stairs. The room where not clean. you can find better places for the same price... I would not stay again there, but if you have no options, it would be ok for just one night.
The only thing i liked about this place was the location, because it is very close to the central station in Hamburg.

GermanyWe had multiple cockroaches in the apartment, the facilities were unclean, the shower drain was clogged (it smelled too) and I had to ask for everything like towels and hairdryer at the reception of a neighboring hotel. The cleaning stuff couldn't even give me more toilet paper and sent me to the reception. Wifi didn't work the entire first night till late mid day.

CanadaMy first question upon arriving at the door was, 'Why does this place call itself a hotel?' The door was closed with a note asking guests to walk to another location to check in. This alternate spot resembled more of a warehouse: dark, cluttered corridors devoid of seating. After checking in, we were given our keys and had to lug our heavy luggage back to the original building. Upon opening the main door, we were greeted by a long flight of stairs, with our room situated on the second floor—no elevator in sight. We trudged up the stairs and around (a total of 50 steps) with our luggage. Inside the room, we found only a bed and a lone side table with a kettle atop it. There were no cups, no TV, and no Wi-Fi. Even the small carpet on the floor resembled an area rug that had been salvaged from the garbage. 169 Euro plus 4% tax is too much for this room.
Location. Only within 5 minutes from the train station.
