Previous guests took the batteries for the TV remote, mold in the bathroom. Staff was hesitant and needed to be convinced to hand out bedsheets/towels. Guest kitchen and laundry was locked and unusable.

The property was huge and the corridors were dirty. Very low quality furniture and interiors in the room.

The room was too hot, an air conditioner is necessary in summer. During booking process I didn't see any mention that the room was mixed (gender). The bed I got was advertised as single bed but in reality it was part of a double bed with two mattresses and I ended up sharing that double bed with opposite gender person.

This is a huge place which probably has around 550 rooms. When we were there there were a bunch of school groups that were rather noisy. Also for such a large place the elevator is too small and very slow if you have a room on the 8th floor. The hostel is also located in one of the less interesting areas of Hamburg.

The hostel's location is pretty close to the main train station and was clean and a good price.

- Reception is busy as hell, check in took 20+ mins in a long line and machines were out - ‘partying’ ppl - Although there is a lotta common space, it’s not enough especially for charging anything/eating

My stay in Hamburg was good except for the rooms being absolutely hot at night. Especially when you have multiple different types of people aka one that close the windows and others suffer. No fan are provided and the tilt of the windows to let some air in isn’t enough. My stay was miserable at night. I left the room for 2 hours because it was unbearable to sleep in and went down stairs to just breathe. I stayed in A&O in Hamburg, Frankfurt, Nuremberg, and Cologne. I pre booked before I knew about how hot the rooms are! I will not ever stay again unless you upgrade to fans and multiple fans in a room. Global warming!

The beds were very squeaky and I was woken up whenever the person on the top bunk moved even though they were doing their best to remain quiet. The light at the head of the bed did not work. A lack of outlets at the headboard meant my devices had to be charged in the common area of the room (only USB available, which was not suitable for my chargers). Booking.com provided the wrong coordinates so I went to the wrong a&o which was annoying to find out upon arrival. The staff were apologetic, although staff at both locations acknowledged that this is a common occurrence which suggests there should be better communication to have this fixed. Rooftop closed at 10pm which was disappointing as I was sitting there to watch sunset and was asked to leave. Some of the storage cages under the beds for personal belongings were blocked by furniture and not accessible without rearranging the room.

A hair dryer in the bathroom was nice. Rooms are big and open. Staff were friendly and helpful. I was asked to provide feedback by staff while lounging in the common area and when they heard I was not satisfied, offered me a voucher for a free drink. Rooftop access was nice. Free luggage storage was nice although it did not feel secure as staff easily handed out key cards to access it without verifying whether I had items stored/if I was a guest. Luckily my luggage was not lost or stolen, and I could have paid 4 euros to use a locker which would have been more secure, but a ticket or token or something to prove that I was a guest would have provided peace of mind.

The breakfast was pretty simple, but for it's money value, I think it's acceptable. Plus, we didn't have towels, we needed to pay extra for them. Regarding the check-in, I was actually helping the guy at the reception, it was too funny :)

The bed was pretty comfortable and the room was big. And also they gave us a free drink for giving a feedback to the hostel, which I think it's nice.

It's not possible to borrow a padlock to lock your stuff under your bed. Very few electricity outlets, most beds only have old USB-A ports. Beds do not offer as much privacy as other hostels I've stayed at. I also recommend earplugs for snoring roommates.

Very cheap, the rooms themselves are very clean. Lobby and hallways are ok as well. If you're backpacking around the country it's a great option.
