How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Bathroom is about as 'compact' as it gets... Also any area near a main station in a big city is going to be rough... Hamburg I'd say is a little worse than many I've stayed in (Berlin, Cologne, Frankfurt, ...). It's not the fault of the hotel so no negative for them.
Very pleasant and friendly staff made a real difference. Also they are obviously doing renovations so it was nicely done, clean bathroom etc.

Hoover carpet better.
Stayed over just for one night and the location is perfect if travelling by train. Small room but sufficient space; not really clean (hoovering could be better). Nice price and central in town.

The facilities had been freshly repainted and the room still smelled of paint. There was still some long dark hair on the floor in the bathroom, presumably from the previous guest. The complimentary shower gel consisted of a small single-use bag per guest, which was not sufficient.
Extremely good value for money. Close to central station and transportation options.

My room looked out onto the street where one could hear people argue. I also could smell a lot of cigarette smoke from the hallway outside my room.
The staff was friendly, and the room was clean and neat.

The hotel rooms were poorly equipped. They only had the most basic items.

One of our two rooms was moved because the door was stuck, all the doors seemed slightly stiff, location was not the nicest area of Hamburg, the person checking us in stopped to have an argument with someone outside.
The beds were comfy and the rooms were clean, our rooms had bathrooms attached, the location was really close to the station

Hotel looks rundown and unfinished, there are absolutely zero facilities and your room has only a bed. The toilet is really small, there is no cooler in the room and the street is very noisy (but not in a general city noise kinda way, there are constantly people screaming or fighting outside for some reason). You have to leave the key at the reception every time you leave (although this wasn't that big of a deal in the end)
Close to the main station! Showers were acceptable, the temperature and pressure is pretty good. Next to the train station which is super convenient!

There was some external noise from a nearby bar (Saturday night).
The location was ideal and the check in process was efficient.

Felt a little unsafe. The still had old fashion door keys, and I had to leave it in the reception when going out. When coming back, I just said the room number and got the key. They don’t ask for name or id. Who ever could ask for a key there. And there were no safe in the rooms.
The hotel was close to the train station and to shopping and nightlife.

Steep stairs, no lift. Some rough unfinished pipe fittings etc for radiator. Looked sloppy. The street itself was scruffy.
Very near trains and buses. They were happy to store my baggage for a few hours after checking out. Good shower. Single bed was fine. Could walk to city centre and the harbour.

The street was quite nosy during the morning so you can hear a lot from the room. No elevator, no breakfast area or bar/restaurant in general.
The staff lady was so nice and helpful, I really felt welcomed. The hotel is fine, I stayed for only one night and for a quick stay it’s a good place to stay.
