Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesTo be honest, there was nothing that could have been better. If I need to find one very tiny thing, it would be this. It would have been nice to have some tissues/Kleenex/Tempo in the room but now I’m really grasping to find something. The place was great.
The hotel was perfect. It was a great location, walkable to everywhere in Lübeck. The rooms were spacious, exceptionally clean and very comfortable. Each room was named after a ship in the former Reederei. I asked for, and received, Catherine which was the name of my daughter. The owner/Reederin and her staff were incredibly friendly and hospitable. Knowledgeable about the entire area, we got wonderful tips about what to see and what to avoid along with great restaurant recommendations. Breakfast was fantastic with fresh baked bread every morning and delicious coffee and cappuccinos. I would definitely stay there again and highly recommend it.

Everything was amazing!! It was such a warm, friendly, family-like atmosphere and hostess. The service level was a 10 (on a scale frm 1-10, ofc), and the room was really awesome! We loved the history of the place, the many many small spaces where there was room to relax and enjoy oneself, whether it was for games, drinks or reading a book - all in very classy settings. And the proximity to everything in the city was an absolute bonus! Highest recommendation, and we will definitely book again next time we visit - unless we've sold it too much with the recommendations ,and they will be constantly sold out😄 But I cannot go back to Lübeck again and stay at any other place.

AustriaThis small hotel îs wonderful. With a lot of care for details, nicely decorated but also practical and very clean. Breakfast was lovely, with good quality products and a bit of regional flavour. The host Monika is lovely and offered us good tipps. A place to come back.

United StatesThis is a hidden gem and a beautifully restored old townhouse that dates back to 1790. It is within walking distance of the historical areas and a quiet, peaceful place when you are returning from a busy day of sightseeing. Monica and Nina are so attentive to every need and, even at breakfast, remembered our preferences from the day before. Anyone traveling to Lubeck should consider this their destination hotel!

This is a truly excellent small hotel. From the generously sized room, to the tasteful renovation, warm service and great breakfast, we loved our stay. We especially loved being immersed in history at this truly Hanseatic house. Even the reading room and tea kitchen had plenty of books about Lübeck and it’s past and every nook, window, decor and room detail was thoughtfully redone. Special shout out to Monika, for her authentically warm service. We highly recommend “Die Reederin”.

DenmarkAlmost everything about the place is great. It could be however useful for the guest to have minibar prices in a visible place.
Very stylish small hotel and very welcoming management. Family room is wonderful if you're traveling with kids. We definitely enjoyed our stay at Hotel Die Reederin.

United StatesNothing. This place is worth a visit in itself. Someone who cared a lot built this hotel. It is not like anything else I have seen. Even showers were unique, made with parts from shipping containers. Spectacular play on the old days when the building housed a shipping company.
This place is spectacular. Attention to every detail. Perfectly renovated. Super good taste. Personal service, even breakfast was unique and home made in every aspect. Wowwwwwwwww.

United KingdomA truly great little hotel. Here's what I especially liked: - The room was spacious, clean, and beautifully designed. The bed was huge and comfortable, and large windows flooded the room with light. There was a big bathroom with a decent shower. The hotel only opened in 2021, and there are little touches everywhere that reflect the building's previous life as the offices of a famous local shipping company. The blend of that history and modern comforts is seamless. - The location is excellent. The main street is less than a five minute walk away, with lots of shops and restaurants. Buses to the station and to the beaches also stop just around the corner. A hundred metres from the hotel front door - literally at the end of the street - you can catch a 90-minute cruise to Travemünde - The staff and the experience. I think this is what really made the trip to Lübeck special. From the moment my fiancée and I arrived, we were treated like the whole hotel was there just for us. Check in was a drink and a chat in the lounge. Nina and her staff were friendly and super helpful - they made sure we had towels for the beach, recommended restaurants and even made reservations for us. In short, a great room in a fantastic hotel, and the service was even better. Stay here if you're in Lübeck!

AustraliaThis was such a beautiful stay. The hotel has just opened after a fantastic renovation which has done a great job of retaining the old but combining and adding a modern contemporary edge. We were meet on entering the hotel by the lovely staff. The check in process is not your normal counter experience but a comfy sit in the lounge area instantly making you feel at home and at ease. Helpful and lovely throughout our stay. The rooms were very spacious and clean. The breakfast was fantastic - not your normal buffet but individual serves beautifully presented. Great location to walk and see the sites of Lubeck and close to a great variety of restaurants. We were the first Australians to stay at the hotel and would have no hesitation in recommending it to other Australians and travellers.
