Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SwedenThat it was advertised when we booked that we were going to stay in a room of 8 people, but got one for 20 people. And also that there was no possibility to store or cook food.
We appreciated that it was clean everywhere and that the beds in the big dorm (20 people) were separated so you had your own “room” anyways.

Spainit's a huge room with tons of people. Bathroom is gender neutral and downstairs in a strange corridor. The bathrooms are not very clean, they just get used too much. I would not recommend this place for a solo female traveler. It's in a sketchy part of town where I had multiple sketchy moments with men unfortunately, one in the hostel itself. I didn't feel comfortable showering or just hanging out in the common area.
It is quiet and dark in the room. Had clean bedding. Good to sleep.

Check-in was smooth. We got the bunker beds and respective lockers. But it’s a cheap place, so I didn’t have high expectations.

GermanyThe air gets really stuffy in the night, and the bass of the nearby clubs is audible, even though, like I said, they did their best to shield it off. The no key-card system didn’t personally make me feel unsafe, but I’m sure it‘s not for everyone.
Unbeatable location (both to Reeperbahn as well as the next S-Bahn station), nice staff, felt very safe despite the ever present dodgy people on the Reeperbahn at night. I really like how the concept of this hostel is simple, but just works: only one big dormitory with bunk beds whose lower beds had curtains, so you could get dressed and undressed without going to the toilet cabinets. The lockers were big enough for middle-sited suitcases, the beds really comfortable, clean, and each equipped with its own light and socket. The sound-protection obviously doesn’t work against the bass of nearby clubs, but it‘s astonishingly quiet.

AustriaHonestly, if you are a backpacker that is not a place for you. It was not the cheapest option but it should have been. You share a single room on the first floor with more than 20 people. The bathrooms are mixed and the showers were not private. Nothing was. It should be cheaper than what it is. Like... It's not worth the money I spent, i had to leave halfway my reservation because it was just that bad. And the floor was sticky for some reason. The people working there were nice though.
It was near a Ubahn station, that's good.

Hi!
GermanyThe lockers are positioned right next to each of the beds, which is nice, but they may not be quite tall enough to fit certain backpacks entirely. I thought the shower area was very nice (modern design, free shower gel dispenser inside, unisex), but a little rack or sitting bench to put all your clothes and other items in the area before the showers would be a great addition. As of my visit, there were hooks installed on the wall: You undress, hang your clothes on the hooks that are located outside the showers on the opposite wall, and then go into one of the showers that each have their own curtain you can use. But not everything (for example glasses, jewellery, or your toothbrush) can be put on a hook. Right now, you have to plan ahead - leave things in the locker, bring a little bag to put on the hook, etc. (the floor before the showers can get wet). Additional convenient storage here would be great. These are all very minor negative points, though. The only negative thing I thought was actually noteworthy is that at night, there can be a lot of people in the bed room at once, resulting in deterioration of air quality (even though the room is big). So a potential improvement for the future could be a better air ventilation system for this room.
It was a great stay, better than I had expected. Soft beds with privacy curtains, friendly staff, slightly small but exceptionally clean bathroom. At the time when I stayed, the value for money was excellent. There are a lot of places to eat and shops with food and other conveniences nearby, right along the path from/to the nearest train station. The bathroom and shower area was unisex, which I thought was nice and very progressive. Do know that this hostel is located in Hamburg's very active red light district, where a lot of party venues are located, so there may be people quietly entering or leaving the room, bass from a nearby disco, or other occasional little disturbances at night, like people that can be heard outside. I don't consider this a negative point for this review, as this is Reeperbahn (that's the name of this red light district), where people specifically go for fun and an active nightlife. Personally, I had zero issue sleeping. But I also don't wake up all that easily from sounds. There was bass from outside, but I didn't think it was actually loud. 10/10 recommended stay, unless you don't like Reeperbahn.

United KingdomPlease trust the other reviews - everything in them is true. First, the bathrooms are in a basement and completely shared, with no locking doors and swimming pool style buttons you have to keep pressing. Additionally, the hostel does not appear to track who has what bed. On my 2nd night, I was asked at the front desk what my bed number was 'as my bed might have been given away'. After confirming it was okay, a couple hours later they seemed to have already forgotten as they yanked my curtain open with another prospective person. Additionally, the day after a lady who worked there chastised me in German for not leaving the curtains closed as otherwise they might give the bed away - despite the fact that they leave the curtains open after changing the bedding for the day! You really shouldn't have to worry about if you'll have a bed or not when you've paid ahead for 5 nights.
The hostel feels somewhat nearly built, and is overall in somewhat decent condition. Cleanliness appears to be maintained to an alright standard, with sheets changed daily.

AustraliaThe area is so dodgy near this hotel, especially at night time filled with clubs and drunk people. I was not given a key card to let me into the dorm and therefore anyone could just walk in without them verifying if you’re actually staying there. The showers/toilets are uni sex and only a curtin for the shower therefor as a female it is a little unsettling. They’re also down some dark stairs near a storeroom which is a little scary again as a solo female traveller. Also all night you can heard the music from the clubs and bars. It’s a cheap stay however there is not safety. The hostel beds are just in an old run down room that seems half finished
there were curtains for privacy and a light and power plug to charge devices and the staff were friendly

Netherlandsevery bed gets its own lockers, but they're too small for hiking backpacks. I had a top bunk, and had to hide my bag under the covers while I went out. there are also no places to hang up your clothing while in the shower or toilet. I had to wash myself at the sink and change clothes in the toilet, all while holding my bag up from the ground as well.
