Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

United StatesUpon arrival after dark in the rain, a moment of panic since there was no obvious means of entry to an apartment building that has no lobby or on-site reception, so we phoned and were given instructions to walk to another hotel (carrying our luggage), register, pick up key, and walk back to the original apartment building. (We learned there were instructions with map posted at the entry, but this sign was not visible at night at the dark entryway.) Guests should be told in advance about this unusual registration procedure. Once inside the apartment building, we found we were on the top floor accessed by steep, narrow stairs. Elevator had been out of service for a long time with no plans for repair, we were told. Our apartment on the front of the building had large windows and light but considerable night noise from street gatherings. More than once we entered or exited the building immediately beside a person taking shelter and/or sleeping under the small porch overhang at the front door of the building - the only means of entry for guests.
Location near main train station and local transport links. Studio apartment was roomier than expected with large windows. Adequate simple kitchen facility with minimal utensils. Clean and updated bathroom. Comfortable bed. Clean sheets and adequate towels. Good heating and wi-fi. Cleaning staff was friendly and helpful, when on-site. One felt "safe" once inside the apartment building. Despite some negatives mentioned below, we were OK once we knew what to expect and would be prepared to book there again.

United KingdomI did not feel safe staying here. Every day, regardless of time, there are groups of men taking drugs at the entrance to the property. We had to step over them to get inside the building. With 2 small children I felt very uncomfortable entering and exiting the building. I feel let down by the owners/ managers of this company for showing no attempts to deter this from happening. A locked gate at the bottom of the stairs could be something I hope they would consider in the future. This accommodation has great potential however to accept this behaviour is absolutely unacceptable. For this reason alone I would advise anyone to look elsewhere for accommodation.
The staff cleaning the rooms were friendly.

NetherlandsThe property itself was all good, the only negative thing is the area. Very loud throughout the night and every time you enter and leave the building you had to ask the group of people loitering in the stairs to make room for you. Didn’t feel very safe/comfortable.
Very conveniently located apartment. Balcony was great extra surprise
