Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyVery uncomfortable sleeping. One pillow of the size of the shoe, the bed decoration at the head rest is sticking out so that one can hurt themselves. After closing up the restaurant downstairs (approx 11 o'clock), stuff members gathered right under my window. Breakfast for 14 Euro is an overkill
Great location: a couple of minutes away from the center, but still isolated from the tourist crowds. Wifi was fast enough to stream a movie. Fan in the room helped to keep the comfortable atmosphere in the room at +27 outside

GermanySmall washroom + toilet which is OK for a stay of a couple days though. Food in Indian restaurant was expensive than I expected. Fragrance of Indian spices lingers around the restaurant area. Mirror and wash basin within the room and not in the toilet.
Great location away from noise, within old town and near a tower with stairs going up the wall. A short walk to all the sightseeing locations. Perfect for 1-2 days, which is usually the needed time for this town. Its a bit of walk from the train station but you will be walking within the old town, which is nice. Staff is helpful. The hotel has an Indian restaurant attached to it. Heaters were quick to warm up the room.

AustraliaThe only thing I would suggest is some coffee in the room. We do like to finish off our day with a coffee but this was definitely not a big drama
Fabulous location in old town Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Staff were really helpful and ensured everything was suitable. Delicious breakfast. Our room was very comfortable with checking in and out a breeze.

Portugalwifi/internet very poor The layout of the room 11 was not efficient and a little disappointed concerning what it shows in pictures. I was not given a receipt of what I payed.
The hotel is very well located in the old city, however a bit far from the railway station but very easy to get there. The Klingentor tower is a few steps from the hotel were we can climb the stair and walk along the city walls. The bed was acceptable but the pillow wasn't soft. Room very clean and sheets impeccable all time. Friendly and discreet Staff

United StatesFront door locked and unresponsive during regular business hours. No option if you don't have a cellphone. Poor combination of light fixtures, too bright or too small, misplaced, out of order. Hotel hard to find... not the hotel's fault, the town is a historical kaleidoscope of street snippets changing names--part of the charm--but much clearer directions could be included online. Lame, outdated chair too low to use at cabinet surfaces as a desk/ work station. Adequate but lame shower design. Missing window curtain. Worrisome first impression of pervasive, pungent, unfamiliar middle east restaurant odors in the hallway--happily absent in the room.
Room was basic, clean, comfortable and quiet(!). Two modern windows brought in natural light and provided a decent view. Bedding was fresh and comfy. Once located, the hotel is close and convenient to the center and all locations. Once located, staff was personable, helpful and down-to-earth. Glassware and bottled water provided, electric kettle on request. Reasonably-priced one-of private parking.

United StatesThis is not about the hotel. We stayed two nights because of the excellent location. But it is hard to find coming from the train station. City travel info was closed so we did not have a map. A local we met outside the walled area took us to our hotel inside the walled area and the best location. She had a bit of an issue also using her phone for directions. She then gave us a short tour.
All was good!

United KingdomThe Schwartzer Adler in spite of its name is a hotel run by Indians who have a restaurant. The smell of spices is strong. It was disppointing not to be in a German inn in such a historic town. The inn is shabby and the room old fashioned with the wash hand basin in the room. The price was reasonable.
The location is great. The room though old fashioned was spotless , the pillows were good.

United KingdomProperty is tired and not well suited to being a hotel without capital investment that current owners appear unlikely to be able to provide. Suspect it will become more of a hostel over time, which isn't necessarily bad, but not what we needed.
