Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaCan't think of anything!
Amazing location, steps away from places to grab food and 4 minute walk to the beach so you can save on transportation costs. One of the cleanest guesthouses I've stayed in. The host was very cordial and I appreciated the ability to check in early to use the excellent WiFi connection. I would love to stay here again if I am back in Punta Cana on a solo trip.

United KingdomNo AC in the room, although fans are provided, not much negative feedback apart from that, they are super nice people.
Valentina and her partner are one of the best host for accommodation I had. Communication before checking was good, they always want to make sure that you are ok during the visit the country, they gave good tips for travelling around, shops supermarkets and affordable restaurants. On arrival Valentina advised very well on excursions, surroundings, things to do, I was so glad that I booked my excursions with them as they know the best companies at good price and is fun to go with other people who are also staying at GAVA Hostel, I strongly recommend booking all the excursions with them. The accommodation itself is a small flat, very cosy and easy to meet other travellers, kitchen with all you need, toilet and a good size bathroom, nice front garden, beds where comfortable, clean, the whole flat was plotless clean, the room was small but enough for 4 people, fans where provided, quiet to sleep at night, beach 5-10 minutes walk with nice disco bar. I asked for a lower bunk bed and was reserved by them, anything that they can do, to make your stay more comfortable they will do it, they asked If I needed anything during my stay to let them know, shower towels provided. Good location near the beach, near supermarkets and shops. I would stay here again if I come back to Punta Cana, affordable price for the area.

CanadaFellow travelers who leave worn clothing on the floor makes it difficult for hosts to clean the room and laundry is an eyesore. When the room was humid and minimally aerated, I became sick from a fellow traveler who was sick. Fans and keeping the door and windows open helped. For longer than 1 week stay, it would be great to have a scheduled 1 day shopping excursion or more information about local big grocery store shopping and transit.
Gava Hostel is conveniently located, centrally, between the ocean, restaurants and local tourist shopping, a short distance walk from each. Currency exchange from American dollars to Dominican Pesos is available nearby. Businesses accept both currencies. However, using Pesos provides a better deal.

CanadaMy bunk bed number 4 it was needs a new mattress. It sunk in the middle and accumulated moisture from my sweat quite rapidly and hence I had to shift around to maintain some semblance of dryness. I was able to sleep well despite the over used mattress.
A great place to meet new travelers. Clean rooms and washrooms. A close walk to the Beach, mini markets, restaurants but not the clubs like the ones at Juntos Beber. Over all a good experience

TanzaniaEverything, from early to late check-out, storing luggage and more costs extra. The room is quite small but for the price probably justifiable.
Very friendly couple, willing to help and give a lot of information. Areas are cleaned multiple times daily and the location is just amazing!

PortugalThe shower had a weird smell of sulphur and so did the sink. Very inconvenient that they don't accept cash and the minute you walk in they start doing all these confusing calculations. It feels like they really try to make the most money out of you, by insisting on day pass and by charging a fee to look after the luggage after check out...
Google maps will send you to the wrong location, so make sure you follow the instructions that you receive in the booking confirmation. The bed was comfortable and it was possible to use the kitchen. Super close to the beach.

I really loved this place. The hostel is very small, but very clean. I met some great people and the owners are super friendly. There’s also plenty of space and the kitchen is very good. The location is perfect, it’s only like 3 mins from the beach and very close to restaurants, but in a quiet street.

NetherlandsAbsolutely nothing NOT to like.....Just GREAT place
WOW !!!.... Just....WOW !!!! . I've stayed at many hostels during all my travels, most of them Great !! But the personal attention and commitment shown by the 2 owners to ensure that my (and other guests') stay, tours and whatever more were met is of an exceptionally high level !!! It's a small hostel, which absolutely has its charms and the location near: * For me one of thé most picturesque palm tree filled beaches I've ever seen - only a 5 min. walk * Various super markets (closest = 3min. Walk, furthest = 7 min. Walk) * Various very affordable bars not only in town centre, but even better on that pristine beach within mentioned walking distances in a very safe area. No problem to walk alone around at night) I booked all my tours through GAVA and they even were so committed that they both walked me (and on other days the other hostel guests) to the early 6:30-tour pick-up location to be sure I got on the right bus !!! (I mean...just WOW !!) Additionally they were very eager to hear the experiences of the tour, so - if necessary - they could improve quality, expectation, service, etc. (....Just WOW !!) GAVA really thought of practical things such as that: * EVERY bed has an electrical socket prepared for most INTERNATIONAL plugs AND 2 USB-ports. * Easy and trustworthy lockers for personal items it's with their key, so you don't have to buy a padlock or something. * Beds AND cushions are very comfy. In fact...the moment you lay down, not sleeping is just NOT possible. * Even though the room sleeps 4, the wooden bunkbeds were of such good quality they make absolutely no sound and do no wobble when somebody gets in / out of bed so the others don't get woken up unnecessarily !! * Hostel is exceptionally clean and the owners make sure it stays that way !! Every time I came back from staying elsewhere in Dom Rep, there was only one place I wanted to go back to....GAVA !!

BelgiumTHE WATER! It smells terribly bad, it is true that it is not for drinking in Punta Cana, but I got sick just brushing my teeth or showering there. Now I am taking antibiotics and such because of it. The mattresses are old, and the tours are expensive. You have to pay all your stay upfront ONLY in cash, so it doesn't give you any freedom if you want to change to somewhere else. Also you have to pay for almost any little thing there. Additionally, they base the payments in US dollars, you can pay in Dominican pesos but with a too high change rate. The place is hard to find, it is better that you locate it on google before hand, because people around it don't know it and you might spend hours searching for the place.
The hostel is small (only room for four people) so it helps to meet people staying there in a more personal manner. It is really an apartment, the hosts are a russian couple who live there and keep cleaning the place. They are friendly and in general they like to speak with the tourists. It is hard to find, but there are lots of shops and restaurants nearby, as well as the beach.

SwitzerlandI spent a week at Gava Hostel, what can I say? everything was very good, the proximity to the beach, the cleanliness and the room to be shared for 4. Thank you this hostel doesn'ot have air conditioning, and in a dormitory the one who sleeps downstairs is fine, but the one sleeping upstairs is dead cold ! I was happy to find a ceiling fan here! everything is very clean, there are indeed rules, but which I think contributes to everyone's respect. the room and our belongings are completely safe. I recommend this place with eyes closed. and if you have time between 2 excursions I strongly advise you to meet Andrew and Valentina, 2 superb hosts who will advise you on all your program.
