Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThere were a couple of short power cuts but I live in the Philippines and I'm very used to that developing world problem. Water pressure was out the morning that I left but that might have been caused by a rain storm we had a few hours before sunrise. If you arrive by bus from Punta Cana, get off at the Jose Martin stop. The bus will be driving west on Mexico Avenue. Walk west for one more block and turn left on Duarte. Walk through the little China town until you get to a park with ruins (see photos). Pérez street is not signed on this side but turn left after the park (see photo of Pérez and Duarte corner shop). The hostel will be halfway down the street on the right. It has a wonderful view of the park and ruins.
You know a hostel is going to be enjoyable when the owner is also the manager. Juan Carlos just loves meeting people, entertaining, and giving tours around Santo Domingo. The hostel has a shared kitchen, free tea and coffee, and purified water so you don't have to create more plastic waste. The single rooms are small but they are comfortable and they have everything you need. The bathroom was spacious and the ceiling fan cooled the room to the perfect temperature. Security was also well done with a locking magnetic gate and the rooftop terrace had Latin dance lessons while I was there. This place is a great value and I met some cool travelers.

ChileI liked all aspects of Gato Colonial, nevertheless, there is always place for improvement. Like in many (almost all) places I stayed in Dominican Republic, the water pressure in very low at times (this could be improved, but would require a mayor intervention in the building). Although the rooms were clean in general, the places difficult to reach, at some height, could use some more frequent cleaning. Also, the terrace, on top of the building could be improved. Those are, in no case, details that should stop you from staying here.
The host, Claudia, is welcoming, friendly and helpful. The location is very convenient, very close to the main attraction in the Old City, one block away from the ruins of the San Francisco Monastery. There are supermarkets and eateries close by. About the room: It is somehow spartan, but I prefer it that way. The hostel street is quiet, and even when it gets a bit noisy (Dominicans like to share their music with everybody in the block), rooms in the corridor (all except one) are not, given how they are located inside the building (there is one room facing the entrance, which I cannot comment about). As in many places in Dominican Republic, the windows do not have glass, but a mosquito mesh. Also, there is no AC but a fan, which, when I was visiting (end of May) did a pretty good job at keeping the room fresh. The hostel offers free drinkable water, a usable kitchen, and beer at a fair price. They also offer laundry service for a fee. I went through the country during 10 days and stayed in different types of accommodations, and can really say that this is a good place to stay at a good price. I stayed here twice, which can give you an idea.

I loved everything about this hostel. The location is perfect. If you come from Punta Cana by bus, you can get off at Parque Enriquillo and walk here. If you come from the Caribe bus terminal, you need a taxi or uber, but it's not expensive. You can walk from the hostel to everywhere in the old town in a few minutes. A big supermarket (Supermercado Nacional) is around the corner. At night the hostel was quiet, so I slept very well. It also has a cool vibe, met a lot of great people of different nations and ages there. The rooftop terrace is a good place to socialize in the evenings. Claudia und Juan Carlos are great hosts, very welcoming and helpful.

Czech Republicroom size a bit, but mainly hot water wasnt available - could have been a temporary issue, however since we arrived for a short stay couple of days after, it still wasnt working. Cold water is fine and we survived, but could have been solved mas rapido.
Extremely friendly welcome by the hotel managers, allowing flexible checkin, storing luggage, offering help if any questions. Location is just a couple of minutes from the main streets, surrounding is not quiet - but thats the same case for any accomodation around the center: cars and cats are not silent anywhere:)
