How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Nothing …. I have nothing negative to say
I don’t no where to start ! I loved this little lodge. It was everything I was hoping it was going to be . I wanted a non commercial , none busy , little Hidaway that I would just chill with my kids. Both our rooms were right in front of the pool , bar , and restaurant . I felt like it was a very nice Airbnb Because I could bring my own wine and food, yet had service as if it were a 5 star hotel. Everyone was just soooo nice ! My daughter had such a good time with the staff especially Juan Carlos “he talks Japanese and he’s from the moon “ lol. Let’s talk about the food. It was so good . High quality food, delishious and filling portions. The details that go into the service is what really brings it home. Now as for my other needs like rides , excursions …. They even took care of that . All I had to do was ask and everything was set up . It was perfect . Location is right infront of a field filled with cows and wild birds - absolutely beautiful but it’s out of sight until you get there . Sometimes you hear the cows mooing and it makes you feel like ur in the campo but ur actually in a king size bed with ac and everything at your finger tips.

our room was close to the pool so at times it could be a bit loud if you were hoping for an afternoon siesta.
The staff was exceptional, they are all very friendly and helpful. The restaurant was delicious. The location was very close to the beach. The pool was amazing, and the rooms were very comfortable and clean.

Loud and inconsiderate guests. Hotel staff did nothing to remind them to lower their voices past 12am.
Breakfast was excellent and had great variety. Beach was only a short walk away and we had an easy time setting up surf lessons. The room was larger than expected and the bed was comfortable. Pool was also great and super relaxing. The staff were kind, considerate, and an absolute blast to talk to. Unfortunately, the other guests did not keep to quite hours and no one from the the hotel asked them to keep their voices down. This made getting to sleep a challenge because all the windows are open (with insect netting) and sound traveled very easily.

This place was amazing! We got a little taste of a resort in a much more relaxed environment. The pool was great, there was a bar and food available all day at the pool. The restaurant food was absolutely delicious and the service was impeccable!! The room was clean and the bed really comfortable. And the staff was just absolutely amazing.

Above expectation- so good that we thought about taking days away from our next stop to stay more days at the surf lodge. A big thank you to Daniel, Wanda, and Anya for making the stay so great! Encuentro was the highlight of our trip.

We have no complaints.
Breakfast is amazing, dinner as well. Staff was exceptional. We had a bit of an accident on a excursion and they made sure we had everything we needed to feel better. Juan Carlos is amazing!

everything was amazing!
We had an amazing time at El Encuentro Surf Lodge; the food was amazingly delicious and a very big varity was available, so you could eat easily for 2 weeks and not once eating the same meal. The staff was always very happy, helpful and courteous. The Lodge itself was located very good to surf and we very much liked the yoga plattform and yoga lessons.

Sometimes when we were having breakfast, other guests would light up cigarettes at the table next to us.
The staff was lovely! They made our stay in this beautiful country so worth while. The breakfast was lovely too.

It’s a bit noisy (day&night). But they give you earplugs, and that helps.
Perfect spot for surfing holidays. Very clean, cozy, perfect location (for surfing), awesome staff.
