Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Gorgeous property and friendly staff. We stayed at two hotels in Quito on our trip and which we’d just chosen this one! I’m still dreaming about the high ceilings and glassware and collections displayed in the hall.

This place is a hidden gem right in the heart of the city. The space in the room is good for families. We stayed here for 4 nights with our 2 kids (2 yr and 4 yr old). The room was big enough with amazing views right from our window. The breakfast area has the clear view of Penecillo. The views and the spacious rooms

United StatesSo minor - but the bed sheets did not fit on all the beds and the mattress covers and pillow cases were absolutely creepy to sleep on. The shower on our last day would not heat up. But we felt these were minor as so much else was perfect for our family.
The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The house is lovely, well lit, tranquil, historic, a bit quirky (which we like). Breakfast room has a wonderful view. Room was spacious and beds comfy (unless your sheet came off in the night...which left the weird plasticky mattress cover)

United KingdomThe only minor issue we had was that the hot water was a bit temperamental - no hot water one morning. It sorted itself out by the evening before we had chance to report it though!
Great location as a base for staying in Quito, walking distance to the key sights in the old town and surrounded by lots of bars and restaurants. Interior of the hotel was amazing! The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious!

AustriaThe breakfast was very delicious and the staff very attentive, friendly and accommodating. The hotel is rather quirky, but tasteful and the rooms are very comfortable and clean. All in all, Casa Alquimia is a little Oasis in the middle of the historic centre. We could not have chosen a better place to stay.

United StatesRemember that you are in a city and at night there will be city noises. Otherwise, no complaints!
My boys and I had a wonderful stay at Casa Alquimia. The hotel itself is bright, spacious and has fun, quirky decorations. Everything was very clean, and the staff was always available with a smile and helping hand, or suggestions for the area. The included breakfast was delicious and fresh, with bread, fruits, made to order eggs and yummy coffee. Even better, you step outside the front door and are in Old Town Quito, with so much to explore. That being said, going back to the hotel was a nice haven from the hustle & bustle of outside. It's also very secure, as access is only possible with a fob or by ringing a bell.

CanadaIt would be nice to have a kettle or coffee machine in rooms.
Casa Alquimia was the perfect choice for me. It is a stunningly beautiful boutique hotel in a renovated historical building. The location is excellent as close to La Ronda, the old town, with most highlights of old town within walking distance. The staff is welcoming, courteous and helpful, thanks to Silvana for her wonderful recommendations and assistance. Also Oswaldo, Stephanie and others for excellent breakfast. The breakfast is served on rooftop with great views. They also arranged rides to and from airport with drivers who act as guides to the country. All and all, I highly recommend this great hotel with nice and spacious rooms. I had one with balcony looking onto the Santo Domingo plaza.

Sylvana and her sons are gracious hosts. This is our second stay. A charming facility with a great location. The absolute most comfortable bed that I have ever slept in. Breakfast is excellent, hosts could not be more accommodating. We had a 4:00am airport taxi And Sylvana’s son woke up to take out our bags. Very sleepily however. New street side windows all but eliminated street noise. One of my favorite spots. Old world charm. We will be back. Thanks for another great stay.

NetherlandsIt seemed like a very safe area to us, but we were warned to be careful.
We loved this family run hotel right in colonial center of town. Silvana is a wonderful host and she has done a tremendous job renovating this really old building- it is charming and cozy. The breakfast was delicious and she went out of her way to make something special for me as I am vegan. Their homemade tea was so good!!! She gave us great recommendations for dining and tourist attractions. The other personnel in the hotel were very attentive and helpful. Beautiful rooms, beautiful common area, great views from breakfast area. Highly recommend!!
