Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

EcuadorThe room was a bit hot during the day, but there was a fan. When it's time to go to bed at night, you can sleep without a quilt.
You can have your own room for $10. The room was also very clean. There is also internet. The house is not on the side of the road, so you can feel quiet.

Germany- no AC, the fan was really loud and didn’t cool the room down at all! - just cold showers
+ kitchen and fridge to use + super nice staff! + great (vegan) restaurant at the hostel one block away (Casa Michael, that’s where you check in and where the staff is in case of a question) + comfortable beds + location is allright. feels like a really safe neighborhood, Bus to the city center takes a while (but is cheap with 35 cents) Uber takes shorter (more expensive with 4-10 dollars though) + supermarket, food places and a mall close by

Swedenthey didn’t have a reception, you had to check in at casa michael that was a few minutes walking distance. this was not informed to me though so I had to wait outside for quite awhile until another guest told me. It doesn’t have air condition, and it’s not a place to stay if you want to meet other travellers.
Great price for a private room. The kitchen was alright

GermanyIt's very confusing to find, none of the taxi drivers have known the "IWANA" hotel, only casa Michael (which belongs to the area too), this could be changed. The property itself has a shady vibe, not very friendly
Little money for a single room, artful details (paintings, decoration), helpful employees, delicious vegan falafel restaurant

EcuadorAlthough the room has a window and a fan, it is still a bit hot, but it is acceptable.
I like living here very much. Because it is very quiet here, you can rest quietly, unlike the noisy city center. There are also large supermarkets nearby to facilitate shopping. If I come to this city next time, I will stay here again.

AustraliaBeing so far away from the main Admin desk (walking through the neighbourhood to a separate building to stay in) Can be difficult to get to If you a walking, as you can encounter many locked gates along the neighbourhood thoroughfares
Everything worked well, the room was fairly clean (except for a piece of chewed gum left on top of the clothes rack). Kitchen was well stocked with Utensils. Aircon and WiFi worked great. Staff were professional.

United StatesWas told that I’m staying in Hostel Michael after being told that check in is there, which I assume is a hostel run by the same owners just down the street from IWANA. Room was connected by windows and doors to the owners house or other houses attached to it, so it was super loud the entire night..pots and dishes clanking, people yelling, very loud music, and large fireworks that sounded like they were literally outside of my room. Only 1 bathroom attached to the main lobby.
Has a kitchen and a small sitting area outside. Room had AC which made it bearable. Is in a gated alleyway so I suppose it felt kind of safe. Room had lockers.

EcuadorThe bathroom was without soap. The shower was cold. Noise of dogs at night. There was nothing to clean in the kitchen. We saw cockroaches. The furniture stinks! The curtains are badly placed. Too much light coming into the room.
The restaurant next to House Michel (close to House IWANA) has Falafels, which were really good!

United KingdomWe booked to stay at this place but a few hours before we were due to arrive we got a message that there was a problem with the room and they had somewhere else for us to stay close by. I checked on booking.com and it was cheaper than the place we had booked but they told us it was more expensive. The room was ok but we had chosen Casa IWANA because it had a proper kitchen, the room they put us in had a little stove and fridge. No space to prepare food or eat and had to wash up in the shower.

GermanyFor the cheap price it is totally fine. The location is not very convenient if you want to explore the city but very close to terminal and airport which is a bonus. I have actually stayed twice here. It does get super hot in the room though. For most people it would be advisable to only stay at places with AC. There is a big supermarket near and local restaurants and shops. During my stay two other guys were living in the other rooms. They were not always so quiet and the kitchen was not always left clean. But staff comes regularly to clean the kitchen a bit. I had to ask for toilet paper and soap twice but they never provide soap which is questionable, especially in covid times. The communication via Whatsapp was always clear and fast. WiFi was not amazing but good enough. So basically if you are on a tight budget, this place is okay.

United StatesI don't feel the description of the property matched the property. I was surprised to find no hot water or bath towels. Staff wasn't to be found after a confusing check in process. There was nobody around at check out time . There were not many places to eat nearby.
The room was small but clean. The bed was very comfortable and the sheets were good quality. The room had a good fan that made up for lack of air conditioning. The facilities seemed very secure and safe which helped considering how the neighborhood looked. The neighborhood was very quiet. An UBER ride to the airport was $2.13.
