Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaCould have used a couple of extra towels. Face cloth not available - but I don’t think those are a thing in Ecuador.
Responsiveness of staff; easy to find and walk to ferry; spacious; clean and loved the shared fridge and kettle just outside our room. Was nice to grab a beer / cold drink at store nearby and then chill in evening at top floor patio in hammock. They also had a big map of town and beaches available to reference in the common area. Was also walking distance to airport the day we flew out. Took 15 minutes but would have taken 5-8 minutes but the gravel road made it difficult to drag roller suitcase so we had to take the “long way around”.

BrazilWe liked everything.
We loved our stay at Hostal Cattleya. We had a room on the upper floor and there is a terrace in front of the room with hammocks and sofas and a beautiful view. The breakfast is also on this terrace and it is prepared by Ivan at the time you want. We loved that, because on 2 days we had to leave before 7 am to dive and breakfast was ready for us before 6:30. It is a simple but very tasty breakfast with fruit, eggs or omelet, fresh warm bread, jam, fresh juice. You can also use the fridge on the terrace to store drinks or other things you want. There is water for the guests to refill the water bottles and you can also make a tea anytime. Ivan even leaves a binoculars there, so you can spot the sea lions at the beach. He was a fisher and has so many stories to tell about San Cristobal. It is so nice to talk to him, it is like talking to someone from your family. His wife Trudy belongs to a pioneer family from Floreana island, so interesting, we found informations about her family at the museum at Charles Darwin station. The hostal is very close to the airport, 5-minute walking distance and is also very close to everything. In 3 minutes you are at the first beach and can see the first sea lions and blue-footed boobies. Our room was big, bed was comfortable and shower worked very good. Check in and check out was super smooth, we got our room as soon as we arrived. They also provide beach towels if you want. We loved San Cristobal, I think it was our favorite island, and we loved our stay at Hostal Cattleya. Thanks for everything, Ivan!

Czech RepublicDo note that there are a LOT of stairs. Not a problem for us, but there are many and steep ones. Also, mind that there are those tiny little ants in the room - should you have any backup food (any protein bar or candy) make SURE to put it immediately to the fridge provided - otherwise the ants find it and they be everywhere. With no food, they go away. We usually carry snacks for children on the travels so it was a bit of annoyance. If you know in advance, you can easily prevent the infestation. The shower is with the heater, so there is hot water but the electrical installation seems a bit flimsy so we did not feel super secure taking a shower. Overall, we liked it very much, we came back to stay again as we knew it and we knew they offer a gluten free breakfast.
The terrace with hammocks was very nice. The rooms number 6,7 and 8 are in the front building and have a very nice common living room plus kitchen (fridge, cooker, seating). Free water is always provided. The breakfast is served upon request (you need to agree the time usually the night before with the owner couple). The breakfast is delicious, it was something else everyday (we stayed several nights on two separate occasions). Ivan makes fantastic gluten free options, locally sourced, freshly made, very good. Coffee is good and fresh everyday. Location is great - near the airport, you can even walk (or take a 2 usd taxi). Very good location if you go to Loberia beach, you can walk 30 mins or take a 4 usd taxi. It is a bit off the Malecon, but nothing is too far , it's max 5 mins walk.

United StatesI am a foodie and cook and could not find some things in the kitchen such as paper towels, napkins, etc. It would be nice if the kitchen was better equipped with some basic necessities. Also, it would be nice to have air conditioning in the common area. I couldn't get the oven to work. Some instructions on operating the appliances would be nice.
My room was excellent and I loved the hot shower. I also loved the breakfasts on the patio n the top floor. The food prepared by Ivan and Judy was delicious. I also liked the hammocks. They were so comfortable I had trouble getting out of them. I also really appreciated Judy cleaning my muddy shoes after I hiked up El Junco. I aslo loved playing with their cats.

United StatesIt was a bit noisy in the mornings sometimes because of the roosters and dogs. The windows were quite high and I couldn’t close them. This also did not allow a lot of natural light into the room
Hostel Cattleya was a wonderful place! Ivan and Trudy were amazing hosts! I reserved a 3-person room (one queen bed and a single) with a private bathroom for a great price. It was clean and tidied up daily. Breakfast was great each morning on the terrace. Ivan went above and beyond to make me feel welcomed, teach me a few more Spanish words, and help me organize some activities. I would definitely stay there again!
