How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Water in the shower was hot, but kept switching from hot to cold without touching the taps.
Very big and comfortable rooms! Seems like endless hot water. Kitchen and common areas are cozy, spacious, well equipped and clean. Staff is helpful. Location is just outside of the centre, so it's pretty quiet. Incredible value for money!

The cleanliness can be a bit better done for the bed (crumby) and the bathroom
The owner was exceptionally friendly, took his time to explain everything of the city with patience. Very accomodating and helpful. Good location

Hot water only lasted for 5 min, but apparently something was wrong and then they fixed it.
The hostal owner was the best, always eager to help. Even at the first day they give you a map and some helpful tips to move around.

Location was central to all the attractions within Baños. The owners were very helpful with informing about the major attractions within the city. The room was very clean as well. Plus they have a super cute dog who roams around only in the common area at times 😍

We had a great stay! The room was clean and bed was comfortable. There was hot water which is not always a given in Ecuador. Wifi was really good.

Probably one of the most comfortable places we have ever stayed, felt like a hotel and we extended our stay longer. Could use the computer when I needed, kitchen was really good too

Our room was located in the front of the hostal at the street side. Because the street has a high elevation level, the cars going up make a lot of noise. Especially during the nighttime it woke us up a couple of times.
The owner is very friendly and gives good advice in what to do in Baños. The location is very good and the rooms where very spaceous!

Everything was perfect, the only thing that could’ve helped was someone coming to change the bins/replace toilet paper during the day
This is the perfect place to stay in banos, 10 minute walk from the main centre and the bus station, the building is really nice and homely and the hosts are so helpful we decided to stay an extra night! They also have a friendly dog called camilla, she’s a sweetie

Internet is quite slow and the bed could be bigger given the size of the room.
Large room with furniture on which to unpack your things. Well-stocked kitchen with free tea. Quiet accommodation in a quiet part of town but still close to the main plaza. Staff were very helpful and provided plenty of information on what to do in the area.

Our first room was close to the road and it was a bit loud, but we were able to change rooms with no trouble at all to a quieter room. Great service!
Good location, close to shops, a bakery, the market, a little walk to the bar area, but Baños is quite small so we're talking a 5 minute walk. The staff was superb! Really nice people, helped with organising activities, no issues with extending our stay. Compfy beds. Recommend this place!

Some noise from the street, but we always carry earplugs and even without we could sleep through the night.
Perfect place to stay in Baños. Great value for money. i have literally no complaints: it was clean, good facilities, very well-equipped and organized kitchen, good atmosphere, incredibly friendly owners who helped hook us up with great tour guides, and a lovely dog. Would stay here again on my next visit

This hostel was was comfortable and clean and friendly. The owners are so welcoming, and I felt right at home. The dog is adorable too! :) If you're looking for a calm, quiet place to stay, Princesa Maria is perfect.

The owners of the place are really good. They are extremely kind and helpful and can book various rafting and paragliding trips at a low price. The hot shower was the best I had in Ecuador, the wifi was solid and the kitchen well-equipped and kept clean. The cleaner lady was really hardworking and kind too. I stayed ten days and really enjoyed the big fresh produce market they have right next door three times a week also, also just chatting with Victor and Yolanda (the owners). All round a good place to stay and I really recommend it!

Only downside, the neighbor's dogs barks a lot
Very nice rooms with a work space and beautiful view of their small garden on the balcony. Nice welcome from all the staff, very available and helpful. Comfy bed with enough blankets for chilly nights. The shared spaces are clean and cozy. The showers had hot water. The city center is easily accessible by walking 5 minutes and the neighborhood is safe. We had a nice stay!
