How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

I highly recommend a stay at Hostal Timara! Roy and Maggie are super warm and friendly and are excellent hosts! They helped me arrange all my activities in Banos including Casa del Arbol, biking the Route of the Waterfalls, Horseback Riding, and an Amazon Rainforest tour. The rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable, and the showers always have hot water. The kitchen is spacious and fully stocked, cooking was truly a breeze. The hostel is located near the center of Banos but is quiet at night. The view from the balcony is amazing to wake up to. The price for accommodation is really unbeatable. Overall one of the best places I've stayed at in South America. I rate Timara 10/10.

We absolutely loved Baños and really enjoyed our stay at Hostal Timara. Roy and his wife, were very friendly and extremely helpful with anything you might need. They can help you with transport and any of the incredible activities Baños offers. The hostal was in a great location, just a block from the city centre and close to many hikes and treks in the surrounding hills.

Only one bathroom per floor, and there are multiple rooms (5 or something) on a floor. So they were many time occupied when you needed them
Very friendly owner and he cleaned the shower/toilet a lot, very nice! From the gallery in front of the room you have a nice view on the mountain

The location is great! Personal - especially the owner is very friendly and helpful! All in all - one of the best hostels I have been in Ecuador and I would definitely come back!! ;-)

The decoration is a little bit missing in the room and kitchen, but nothing terrible

Bathrooms to guests ratio- forever waiting to use the loo!

- The main issue was the WiFi, which works quite bad... A lot of times the Internet just disappears; - To access the kitchen you have to go outside the roofs and if it's raining - get wet; - There's only one chopping board in the kitchen!; - Neighbour's rooster can wake you up before 5am ;)
- Great location, close to the mercado and supermarket; - The beds were really comfortable and provided good rest; - Kitchen is fully functional to prepare the meals, however often get crowded; - José cares a lot about the place, welcomes the guests everyday, gives all the information needed and cleans the facilities really thoroughly; - The rooms are quite small, but there are some wall hangers, which helps to organize.

Hostal Timara is in a great location. Very warm welcome from José, who was happy to help with any questions/provide info on local tours, if needed. My room was spotless, the shower was hot and the Wi-Fi worked. I think the hostel is very good value for money.

WiFi a bit patchy.
Good location in centre of Baños. Very friendly staff. Decent kitchen facility. 3 day Amazon tour arranged through hostel was very good and cheaper than others offered in Baños.

Jose is really friendly and will help you if you have any questions. The hostel is located really close to the Plaza what's a surplus. It has all the facilities what you need, great shower and a good view of the city at the roof. Would recommend!

I stayed at Hostal Timara with my mom. We really enjoyed our stay there, the owner José (I think he was the owner - if not he must have been the manager) was extremely nice and helpful, he always helped us with recommendations, let us leave our luggage there while we went to Quilotoa for two days, when we came back he let us stay at the hostel until we had our nightbus to Cuenca... The hostel is very clean, the water in the shower nice and warm. It's very good value, we loved it there!

José was the perfect host. Very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and spacious, and the hostel had a large kitchen with everything you need. The place is located very central in Baños, close to the bus terminal, several supermarkets and the hiking routes. We would definitely recommend and come back here.
