Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

The location was great for using buses and metro to explore the city. The use of the kitchen was helpful. For being downtown Quito, we never felt unsafe. Very helpful staff.

United KingdomThe front door to access the road can be annoying as it requires a push to open.
The place was clean, staff were helpful and friendly. Made my stay enjoyable as I was there for Christmas. Wifi works, rooms were a good size, beds were comfortable and the kitchen was available. The roof was always accessible and the location has good access to transport and is very close to the city.

United KingdomThe shared bathroom downstairs was not so clean and smelt a bit funny. The mattress kept falling through the bed frame so the bed dipped quite a bit! Other than that for the price it’s a great place to stay and it’s very chilled and fun :)
The location is great, you can walk to all the central attractions. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The breakfast is tasty and they give you lots of fruit. The room was big with a great view!

United KingdomGringo the dog is walking love, warmth, and sunshine, and if you're willing to overlook the meek breakfast and not up to par cleanliness plus the 'family/home' vibe, which sometimes works in your favor- and sometimes doesn't, this is a good hostel to consider. P.S. There are cleaning staff and volunteers do a good job, but there wasn't one time I sat down at the table to find crumbs and other people's food everywhere! Some people don't respect the kitchen either- I cleaned up before cooking (other people's mess) and multiple times after because guests are so 'laid-back' they don't respect the communal areas. Cleanliness is pretty dire, so I think staff/David should enforce people cleaning up after themselves much more. I felt like a cleaner on many occasions (although I didn't say anything)... :)
I'd give David 10 stars. Genuinely, top guy; so sincere, kind, hospitable, and lovely. He is one of the best hosts and incredibly helpful & attentive. Other positives: the coffee is amazing, you can get a really good coffee for 50cents. Negatives: Not suited for families or children. It's not a party hostel, but it is a VERY laid-back and 'bohemian' vibed place. As others have said, it's more of a shared house/home than a hotel or similar. There is only one good bathroom, the one on the middle floor by the reception/common area. The others are a bit dire! It's ok if you're used to basic conditions but not good for those who like a bit of luxury or cleanliness. Just sharing honest feedback so others know what to expect. Breakfast isn't really that good, just a toddler's/small child's portion of fruit with a piece of bread and coffee- but the coffee is great! (No milk or brown sugar options added.) One thing I do wish to express, a concern/criticism (my only one regarding staff): although staying a whole week, I was given a very shabby single room in comparison to the photo room... Ironically the single room I booked and was advertised was available for most of my stay- David seemed to give me the run-down room (random broken bed without a mattress in the middle of the room...) while travelers who just stayed a night got the nice cosy beautiful room with a desk. I even asked if I could swap, specifically mentioning it's more feminine/suitable and there's a desk, and he seemed to not acknowledge this. I felt a little (A LOT) judged in all honesty, just because I've got dreadlocks you give me the rundown room when "randomers" who stay just a night get my room? Hmm. Apart from this I loved David, maybe he was stressed when he made this decision. Anyway....

United KingdomThere are only two showers, for a quite a few guests, but I didn't find it to be a problem.
Davide the owner is fab, very friendly, with good tips on where to eat and always around for a chat. There are a lot of solo travellers and it was sociable in a chilled way. The rooftop is glorious with views of Quito and we had a party with live music and a fire one night which was perfect. The hostel is good for the cheap price and even includes breakfast.

PortugalJust next to a noisy main street full of buses trucks and vendors.
Owners really care for the place and they create a friendly social atmosphere in which you can meet travelers from Europe and South America alike. The terrace has a spectacular view and feels like a garden with a lot of DIY and upcycling. The kitchen is decently equipped although my guess is that half of the food in the fridge will start crawling soon;) cleanliness is not an issue here. Mind they have a cat and two dogs. It can be an asset or a nuisance depending on how you look at it. Overall I liked the place.
