Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsKitchen is not well equipped. The owner asked 5 times to book the Abu Simbel tour. We did, but didnt like that he kept pushing. We paid 30 euro pp for the minivan ride to Abu Simbel
Spacious room, good bed, a/c and fans. The location on the island is great. Its a quiet place, lots of palm trees and a superb view over the Nile when sitting on the roof toop 5min walk to ferry boat. We went to the opposite side of Aswan by ferry, to have a walk along the Nile and a walk in the desert. You have to take the ferry to Aswan, then walk north along the Nile and take the big ferry boat to cross the Nile.

United KingdomCons: -Room - no safe. -Room - more plates and cutlery would be useful. -Occasional scraping noise of chairs from above during breakfast.
Excellent value accommodation and a quiet location Pros: -Quiet island location away from noise & hassle of Aswan city. -Free WiFi throughout hotel - ask staff for password. -Helpful staff. We arrived via the guest houses motor launch and staff helped us take our suitcases up the mud bank from Nile river, then up the stairs to our room. (NB. We had to carry our own suitcases down/up stone steps at Aswan). -Room 6 - spacious living (seating, fridge) & kitchenette (sink, gas cooker, kettle) areas, two bedrooms with air-con (one with balcony facing Nile), en suite shower-toilet. -Breakfast, top two floors $3pp. Great views of surrounding area.

United StatesOur stay at Basmatic was truly amazing. Mohamed was always ready to supply suggestions for places to visit around Elephantine Island and Aswan, and the hotel was comfortable, clean, and the staff were super friendly. Mohamed helped coordinate transportation (car + boat) to and from the airport. The rooftop restaurant had unbeatable views of other islands in The Nile. Being on the island felt like stepping into a different world, so different than the business of Aswan. We loved walking around the island and seeing Nubian homes, fields of crops, and talking with locals. It is a magical place!

United StatesWe had an excellent time. This guest house is on an island in the middle of the Nile. The island has no roads. There is a public ferry that runs all day that you can take back and forth for very cheap. The staff will take you to the island upon check in their motor boat and back when you are checking out. Since there are no roads, there is a bit of a sandy bank you will have to carry your luggage up. The rooms were really large, comfortable, and clean. The hot water in the shower does not last a super long time though so we just had one person shower at night and one in the morning. The owner and staff were all excellent. The owner sat with us while we waiting for our food to be prepared on the rooftop every night. He helped us secure a tour to the Nubian village. He chatted with us and answered all our questions we had. Aswan was the most laid back of the cities along the Nile and I wish we would have been able to spend more time there.

United KingdomAn extra chair in the sitting room, table and chairs on the balcony. More plates and bowls etc so breakfast or lunch could be made would make the spacious apartment a more useable space.

United StatesI really have no complaints. Simply ask for what you need. The only thing I didn't like is not staying longer, I wish I had more time.
I loved the hospitality, I felt welcomed and at home. The staff was great, I loved the roof top conversations with the Owner, Mustafa. The food was good. I literally ordered the fried fish each time, and it was quite tasty. The rooftop offers great views of the Nile and the East Bank. They were quick to resolve any issues, and answer all questions, they are very accommodating, simply ask. I loved the peaceful atmosphere, and being in a Nubian Village. Communication is great, and they are very responsive. I was in communication with them after booking and up to my arrival.

NetherlandsOur stay at the Basmatic Nubian guesthouse stands out as an unforgettable experience. While adjusting to Egypt initially posed some challenges, the hospitable staff provided invaluable insights into navigating the country. Thanks to the guesthouse's arrangements, we effortlessly explored attractions such as Abu Simbel and Philae temple and even arranging a trip to Luxor. Evenings spent conversing with Mohammed and Mostafa were enriched by breathtaking sunsets. Unlike our experiences in various other destinations in the world, this guesthouse offered a unique opportunity for meaningful interactions with the locals, fostering a strong sense of community. We felt completely comfortable engaging with the staff, viewing them more as friends rather than just personnel. Without hesitation, we wholeheartedly endorse the Basmatic guesthouse in Aswan as the ultimate choice for accommodation, it even has great coffee and food.

HungaryThe breakfast is not very varied, but this is common in Egypt. The wifi was not very good in our room (it was good on the terrace).
Fantastic accommodation on the island of Elephantos, almost directly on the banks of the Nile. There is a nice view from the roof terrace to the west, towards the Nile. The owner organized a very good motor boat tour for us. Boat transfer from the port. I recommend to everyone. Friendly owner. Good value for money. Pleasant rooms.

This was my second visit to Aswan but my first time at Elephantine island; the island is a Cultural Oasis. The view from the property is amazing, I also loved that it was quite close to the tombs of the Nobles and the Famine Stela. To top it off the host and his staff gave me the warmest welcome I felt like I was home 🏡 at Elephantine island, their hospitality was beyond professional; I felt like I was visiting my distant cousins that I hadn’t seen in years.
