Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyMore of the staff could have spoken better English or even Italian. It was sometimes a bit hard to communicate with the people at the spa - who also seemed to have trouble doing math at times. Make sure to double check the prices at the spa and confirm things more than once. Other than that the rooms do indeed have older installations but we did not care about this too much since the price and location was so great.
This resort really exceeded our expectations and provided us with everything we needed after 15 days of touring the country - note: so many of the things said in the "bad reviews" that I read before booking are simply not true. We wanted comfort, relaxation, a clean beach, snorkelling, suntanning, and more than one restaurant during our 5-nights stay - and that is what you get. For the price of two dorm beds in Europe (70 euros) we had a gorgeous sea view (upgrade, babayyy), big beds, and a spacious bathroom in a private room. We had plenty of water given to us, lots of access to alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages (aka ;) mixers) all day long and found the variety of restaurants (plus snacks) combined with the international buffet to be good enough - and even very good sometimes. The service staff working in the restaurant speaks several different languages and they were all very friendly and accommodating to us - we even met the head chef several times who was also happy to explain the menu and share a laugh with my Italian friend. Laying out by the pools and going to the spa for massages (twice in fact, cause it is very affordable!) felt very luxurious for us - there is also water and juices served by all the pools. The sea was clean, and the snorkelling we did was fine, but I would recommend going on a a tour to a coral reef during a day trip - we also recommend the quad desert tour - it was awesome! The guy who coordinates the social events and dances with FIRE is super cool - very nice person and super talented too! Don't miss his show! Finally when we checked out on our last day they let us stay in our room til 3 pm which was very kind of them and allowed us to use the pool for a few last hours before returning to cold, grey Germany. I would totally stay at this place again for a week or so, as it was very chill and a great deal. (Pro-tip: bring your own bottle of gin/vodka ;)

United KingdomThe mattress was not comfortable, too soft and sinks. Also lost the towels cards in the 2 nd day, went to reception who told me that I had to pay $15 each, I said no way (I had something else I could use instead), but when I checked out they demanded the payment of $30. I was very annoyed not because of the money but because they did not explained properly, when I told them that I had lost them, that I would have had to pay anyway. They just took my refusal to pay for the replacement instead of explaining that the money would still needed to be paid at the end of the stay, so I stayed for 5 days with no towels unnecessarily!!!!
Very large grounds, lovely beach with very long (460m) jetty, the whole atmosphere is great, the staff is very friendly, but would not be my choice in high season, I think it would be too chaotic for me.

United KingdomThe room was starting to show it’s age . Shallower pillow would be nice . Surprised no kettle for 4 star resort . Other resorts advise guests not to walk on the shallow section of reef to preserve the corals /invertebrates. , this could be the reason the reef drop off was not very good compared to other locations .
Large all inclusive resort , good size room with very comfortable bed .The complex is well laid out with good facilities, Food was varied and tasty .

Amazing reefs for snorkeling and diving, sandy beach totally save for children. Very nice and helpful stuff, clean and hygiene place with very much variety of food. Good and equipped facilities, totally family friendly specially with kids. The place is very good for relaxing and recharging your batteries. As well close to most of the sightseeing in Marsa Allam.

GermanyThe building is quite old and you can see the shiny times are over, since necessary repairs are not done every were and infrastructure investments are missing. For example our air condition was broken the last day of our stay and could not be repaired in time. There is no internet in the rooms. WiFi is only available in the lobby hall. It is recommended to bring a mobile WiFi router. Egyptian data SIM cards can be purchased in the resort. There are no mosquito nets in front of the balcony doors. Leaving them open will result in an unpleasant night. Purchases within the resort can only be done in EUR or USD.
The Elphistone Resort is located in the Northern area of Marsa Alam, around 30 km from the Marsa Alam center away. North and south of the resort is no direct neighborhood resort. The resort is quite big with six 3 floor bedroom buildings, shopping area, dining hall and lobby hall. There are two pools and a big beach area with seating availability. The access to the water is very good and shallow. The room is spacious, the bath has a bath tub with shower, warm water was available very well. We booked full board and therefore had access to the food buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food is mostly European dishes and seldom oriental food, but enough choices and lots of vegetables. Service and support of the staff is very good and many of the staff speak up to 4 European languages.

EgyptThe resort is ideal for a quiet, peaceful vacation. But if you're interested in a more exciting, vibrant vacation, you can plan some activities outside the resort.
The rooms are exquisite and the food is very good, not a wide variety though. The beach is very safe for kids as the water is shallow for a long, long walk in. For adults who would like to have a proper dip, there are different spots at the pier from which they can step into different depths. The pier is amazing for walks, taking pictures and watching the sunrise/sunset. The staff are very friendly and helpful; they've even prepared lunchboxes for the whole family on our departure.
