Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThis hotel location is right near the city center and close to the rock churches. The staff is very warm and accomodating with clean, spacious rooms and bathrooms. My room had a beautiful terrace overlooking the city and my bed was big and comfortable. Breakfast was on their terrace with diverse choices from a menu. I do not hesitate to recommend this establishment as all my needs were met and any questions i had promptly addressed and answered. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Great place to stay, very warm welcome from the staff. Gashew at the reception was very polite and helped arrange the pickup to the airport. He also always made sure that everything was ok (And it was) Birhan, the manager is such a kind soul, he helped a lot, even when I was sick, during my whole stay in Lalibela. He's the fun cheerful type of guy and he made my stay much better. The place is super clean, with a good bathroom, a comfortable bed, a good view of the surrounding mountains. It's mostly quiet (Except in the morning where there often are religious events around) The location is also perfect for visiting the city and its surroundings, the churches are five minutes away, same for the "city center" (¿not sure?) where all the banks and ATM are located. Otherwise the small restaurant under the guest house is one of the best in town for Farenjis. The food quality is good and it's not too overpriced (Especially considering the other options in town), with good international options (But also Injera) I definitely recommend this place!

United StatesI am a backpacker and I sometimes need to have laundry done. I thought $10 for laundry was a little high.
Nice place. My room was very nice, lots of space, very clean, the bed was comfortable and the hot shower was great. Decorated nicely. Gashaw and the rest of the staff are very helpful.

SwedenThe location close to shops and churches makes it a bit noisy in the morning. And as soon as you step out you're approached by men who wants to "help" you, guide you, or talks to you, follow you in the street. They don't offer free airport pick up. But they'll arrange it for 150 Birr one way.
The location is very good. Only a few minute walk to the ticket office and 10 min walk to St George's church. There's a restaurant that serves good food. The view from the rooms in the back is amazing. The double bed room is very spacious and has a beautiful interior. Hot water 24/4. And the wifi worked well when the power was working.

Somaliaexcellent location, very clean, staff were fantastic. The hotelier organised our tuktuk when we left for the bus at 5am, and got our breakfast prepared the night before. They gave really good advice on seeing the churches. The doorman was also really sweet, and made sure we single females were safe! Excellent service and wonderful stay. The view was also perfect overlooking the town and hills.

United StatesWe had two rooms and brought bedbugs from one of them - the mattress needs to be thoroughly cleaned. Also, pillows were big and hard, not comfortable for sleeping; replacing each with eg two smaller ones would do the trick.
A nice and welcoming guest house, with excellent communication prior to the trip and kind people working there. Great location - just a few minutes down the street to the entrance to the church complex. All churches, the market, the hills, some of the restaurants are easy walking distance. Breakfast is served next door downstairs, a nice small cafe - try their egg sandwiches! Obviously, there is no luxury, especially these days when electricity (generator) is only turned on from 6:30 till 10pm and water barely trickles (but enough for a refreshing shower) - so expectations have to be set right, and then it's all ok. The reception will charge your devices if needed outside the generator hours. They also organize airport pick up and the tours, so ask them - worked out very well for us!

United KingdomThey should tell guests on arrival about hot water and electricity issues. Although I understand they are improving from the problrms they had from TPLF occupation. International guests need coffee and milk in the mornings.
Rustic guest house. Rooms were very clean and decorated nice Gashaw on reception was a lovely welcoming guy. He really knows how to treat international guests. He is a real credit to the guest house. He gave us WIFI at night to take to the room which was lovely of him The restraunt next door was good Ethiopian menu and had nice cakes, and thank god it was there as there is nowhere else to eat. The man who's sister owns it was very helpful to me and speaks good English. He was a nice guy who looks after the hotel guests. He Invited me to watch the england football ⚽️ It was safe to leave valuables in the hotel. And the people all around the hotel provided excellent security. I felt safe and secure there.
