The Best Lodging Option on the Meuse-Argonne!

It was so hard to say good-bye and leave!

14-18 Meuse-Argonne is an outstanding hotel/B&B option for those touring the Meuse-Argonne and Verdun areas. The location couldn't be more convenient... in the heart of all the major sites. And Maarten and DiDi are outstanding hosts. They are warm, friendly and very helpful with suggestions (you can even arrange to tour the area with Maarten, who is a prolific author on the Meuse-Argonne and a noted historian). There is also a small museum on-site with artifacts from Maarten's collection to enhance the overall experience. Breakfast is complimentary (and delicious) and outstanding dinners are also available for a nominal additional fee. I highly recommend 14-18 Meuse-Argonne for travelers seeking an outstanding lodging experience on the Meuse-Argonne!

A very simple and straightforward location, but that is what makes it so nice. The owners are lovely and very friendly - we speak French, but their English is exceptionally good anyway. We were just made to feel welcome from the moment we stepped inside. A pleasant walk up the hill to the American Monument.

Pillows are a bit too big for my taste, the mattresses too soft. Personal taste, so not their fault!

Beaitiful rural place with absolute friendly and welcoming owner! (Didi)

We recently had the pleasure of staying at 14-18 Meuse Argonne, an experience we will cherish forever. From the moment we arrived Didi and Maarten made us feel welcome and comfortable. Their hospitality was exceptional. The dinners were delightful featuring a variety of delicious dishes. The highlight of our stay was Maarten’s tour of the World War I battlefield. Our grandfather served in WWI in the area. Maarten organized a custom tour that took us to places where our grandfather likely fought. Maarten’s knowledge and passion for the history of the region made the tour more impactful and moving. Walking the same grounds where our grandfather had once fought was an emotional and unforgettable experience. Maarten also provided information of the area not often found in history books. The blend of history, personal connection and the warm welcoming atmosphere of the B&B made our trip truly special. We highly recommend Maarten & Didi’s B&B to anyone who wants to explore the area while enjoying top-notch hospitality and comfort. We can’t wait to return with other members of our family.

Hosts were amazing, knowledgeable about the area and WW1 - which was the purpose of our stay. They were very accommodating to our schedule. Food was delicious and plentiful. Rooms/bathroom were huge and nicely decorated. Location is incredible; there is even a museum on site! If you’re traveling to the area - a must stay!

On a multi-country, multi-week tour of Europe this fall our stay at 14-18 Montfaucon remains a highlight of our journey. We enjoyed Didi and Maarten’s hospitality, their expert knowledge, their friendliness, and the comfort of their historic inn. We were very pleased with Didi’s delicious and pleasing preparations for breakfast and our optional dinners were always happy occasions, well prepared, generous, and comforting without being bland or predictable. We chose 14-18 for its central location in the area, particularly to the key American Great War sites, and it did not disappoint. Maarten’s friendly and knowledgeable expertise was a terrific addition to this central location, making it all the more precious. To have our feet on this hallowed ground combined with Maarten’s guidance and his appreciation of our own interests was a bonus of inestimable value. In short, if you value a stay at a spot that’s unpretentious and comfortable, with excellent dining, an astonishing proximity to history, with the proprietors feeling more like colleagues than owners, then we believe you will certainly enjoy a stay with Didi and Maarten at 14-18 Montfaucon. Don’t miss the excellently curated museum in this historic inns old ballroom.

I liked everything - no complaints, not one!

This wonderful little hotel was just perfect for the two nights we stayed. Our hosts went above and beyond to make sure my party of 6 were completely spoilt and they loved it!. The honour bar was well stocked, the home cooked dinners were superb and the breakfasts were tasty. Our rooms were clean and comfortable. Overall I would describe 14/18 as welcoming, homely and comfortable.

    - No wifi connection in our room, only covered downstairs.

    - Dede enquired what we wanted to eat during our stay and catered for our food wishes. Nice home cooking. - Very interesting WW1 Museum (substantial private collection of battlefield pick ups) included in back of hotel - Quiet and homely, one is made very welcome.

We were retracing my wife’s grandfather’s WWI diary. This property served as a perfect base. The owner Maarten Otte is the author of several WWI guidebooks and served as our guide during our three day visit. There are not many dining options in the area so we ate breakfast and dinner. The food was great.

The temperature in the room was rather low. The shower had a very low water flow and the toilet was noisy which is a problem at night. However the warm welcome and the friendliness of the host made up for this. This is a special place because of the museum and the knowledgeability of the hosts. So we did not mind and would come again.

Very friendly host. Diner and breakfast were delicious. We have tremendously enjoyed the museum created by Marteen and Didi.
