Driving through the whole to drop off suitcases for night. We should have walked up the 500m from the official car park with just our overnight rucksack and integrated with 100% of the walking pilgrims visiting this visit.

Enjoyed spending the evening in Conques surrounded by walkers and no cars. There was an extremely spiritual aura of the town. Watching the illumination of the outside porche of the church at sunset after a half hour detailed description of the Catholic carvings was électrique.

The only thing I can think of is that it was dark, I could open the shudders to get light in the room. If they did improvements in the future that’s what I’d suggest focusing on.

If you are driving - which we were, access to the town just needs to be explained. Its pretty confusing.

The location and the town is really extraordinary. Good value "pub grub", clean and comfortable rooms, firm beds.

The shower was difficult to use as the shower head was not attached to the wall and had to be hand held over the bath.

Great location in the very centre of the village. The bar opened onto the street making it a great place to sit and relax. The staff went out of their way to assist us and were fantastic.

The restaurant has only 2 main course choices and the same menu for lunch and dinner. No prob for one night, but if you were staying days it would be - out of season, it's the only place to get any food as all the cafes are shut and there is no shop. Sheets and blankets were a bit of a shock, rather than duvet.

So close to the Abbey and our spacious room had a view. Lovely and warm on a chilly spring night. It was a superior room with a bathroom with actual bath! I found the decor charming- an old half-timbered building with rather quaint furnishings- not the usual dreary modernist minimalism..The evening meal in the restaurant was good value and interesting, and breakfast was a substantial French breakfast- fruit, compote, yogurt, bread and jam, croissants, tea or coffee- but not bland international hotel style with ham and eggs and muesli. The waiters were charming and helpful.

The hotel is situated in the centre of the small village of Conques, in a large historic building and thus close to all the main attractions.

The morning coffee is crap, very bitter. Plus they had one of those Italian machine that need you to 'bang' the old coffee out of the mould, and awful noise, that meant people had to stop talking until he/she was done banging. No fun at 07.30. The evening menu is limited. Needs a chicken dish, and an adult berger.

The breakfast was the least enjoyable thing - Everything was cold except the coffee/tea. I had requested scrambles eggs and was told there would be no problem online. once there, the waitress not only told me this was not available but kept repeating the continental menu while I was trying to explain I'd requested it... she talked over me, not nice. A good house wine and the chilled Leffe is heavenly.

The location is excellent! Just step away from the church. Also the food of this Auberge is very good, and wine is nice, too. Specialized on the local materials and traditional style. I’ve never heard about Aligot, but it was very very nice. Moreover, a gentleman in the hotel front, he literally does everything, the front desk, bar counter, make a coffee, even the keeper in the small shop nearby. I felt comfortable may be because of him. Nice, friendly and hard worker. One thing I have to bring up my suitcase to 2nd floor by hand, there is no elevator (because it is very old building)

We arrive on new years' eve. The assistance of the person that was in charge of the hotel was excellent. He managed to give us a something to eat when everyting was closed in town. He was extremely helpfull and friendly.

Do not trust Google map to get there. Parking in Conques is difficult.

The decor could have been nicer and the furnishings are a bit outdated.

We didn't have breakfast but the location is great, right in the centre of Conques, and the room was a good size. The staff were friendly. The rooms are a bit tired looking and need some updating but for one night, it was fine.
