Loved our stay at Castel Novel

What a jewel Castel Novel is! Tucked away on a beautiful estate with gorgeous gardens and grounds our stay here was absolutely wonderful. From the moment we arrived our host was kind and attentive. The history of Castel Novel is fascinating and our host was so knowledgeable showing us around and telling us about the estate, both grounds and castle. We opted for the half board which included the evening meal and breakfast. Both were excellent and would thoroughly recommend you try both options. The room was spacious and beautifully decorated with private ensuite. Being on a large estate the room was quiet and comfortable. The gardens are also beautiful and so lush.

The coffee was not great. A machine with long life milk and all the coffee tasted faintly of hot chocolate and was not very warm.

What an amazingly place at such a fantastic price!! We stayed at several Castles during our almost 4 week road-trip around France, Spain, & Portugal. This was by far the best value for the money. Cool history! Lovely grounds! Comfortable bed. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant and the food was sooo fantastic! Staff was nice. The dinning room staff were understaffed (seems like it’s like that everywhere these days) but they were doing their very, very best. They were rushing like crazy to keep up. Kudos to them all. The food was amazing and the dining staff were SO friendly and helpful to us non-French speakers.

No fridge / minibar, the location is a little remote and a drive or 25minute walk into town, but why bother going??

Wow what a place, great looking chateau. Room was simply massive, with dual aspect windows both with balconies. Fab aircon, great character in the decoration. Lovely cooling pool and nice grounds to wander round. Fixed price dining was excellent quality.

Would have liked table service on the terrace tables outside when having a drink in the evenings but only a minor inconvenience to have to walk to the bar and wait.

Breakfast is expensive for the choice. No proper coffee only Filter Coffee available… Bathroom is ok but will soon need to be refresh!

The toilet and shower room was either up or down a half flight of stairs. Not a major problem but inconvenient at night when it was dark. May not apply to every room, but it has applied to the 3 rooms we have had

Rooms were a reasonable size, food was excellent although the breakfast at 20 euros each was a bit expensive. There were 4 electric car chargers . Very attractive building

The hotel is a little tired and needs new taps on the bath. The hotel manager wasn’t very friendly when we arrived but the ladies on reception were lovely.

Smoking should be banned from all rooms, it leaves a horrible trace.

The whole experience was fantastic from the moment we arrived to when we left. We were greeted by a gentlemen who gave us a brief history lesson, which was fascinating, The grounds were lovely. The meal was superb. Can find no faults

The only suggestion I would have is to incorporate a childrens menu for dinner - however the staff & kitchen were very cooperative and offered to make special meals for our daughter. She was served up a very special plate of pasta… but a child portion would have been more than enough. We have no complaints- our stay was wonderful

The staff are lovely, helpful and super friendly and the rooms are spacious and typical of what you would want from a French chateau. A cosy grand country vibe with old time charm. The fine dining restaurant is wonderful and well worth a dining experience. We travelled with our dog and 2 year old daughter, we were all made to feel very welcome.

We booked dinner in the house restaurant and since the menu is fixed (three choices with meat or fish) and I asked about a vegetarian version, the waiter seemed to be shocked and turned from friendly to unreproachable and stopped looking for our table. We were served way after everybody else. Another waiter took over and realised that we hadn't even gotten the water we had ordered before and took care of us in a very friendly way. So over all it was fine, but I would expect a more professional behaviour from people working in a place like this...

The Castel is situated relatively close to the main highway, so it was easy to find. The reception was very friendly and helpful, showed us around and helped with the luggage. We booked dinner and breakfast. Breakfast was served as a buffet, a lot of choices, excellent quality, but also pricy. The rooms were very clean and very nicely decorated, it was a joy to spend the night.
