The woman who checked us in was borderline rude and unwelcoming. There was no sign or direction as to where to check in. No one answered the door. Eventually we felt the door and when opened we called out. No one came for some time. Finally this woman showed up and rolled her eyes when we mentioned our name and reservation. She rattled on in French making no attempt to help us understand. Like google translate for instance. The property is tired and smelled musty. And could use a thorough cleaning. Because it was extremely hot ( no fan and understandably no airco) , we left window open. In middle of night a cat came in and pissed on our luggage.

First of all , this is an amazing and historic property. It’s like going back in time. Bed was comfortable. It would be a great place to hold one of those murder mystery dinners.

The property is somewhat run down e.g. paint peeling off the walls in the bathroom. Not ensuite and the toilet is separate from the bathroom. No storage in the bedroom e.g. drawers, hanging space.

Breakfast as fine -a good range of breads , butter and jams. Good coffee.

Quite a lot really. The hosts did not seem to realise we had a booking so we spent quite a long time wandering around the property trying to find the receptiion. When we did finally find the owner she wasn't very welcoming - you got the impression she didn't really want us there. The beds and bathroom were fine, the bed was very small for two people but acceptable. Never managed to get hot water in the bathroom or wifi. But hey - the cat didnt piss on our luggage.

Charming building, lots of potential ( not fully realised).

Arriving in this beautiful, historic chateau, you will be greeted warmly by its eighth generation family custodian; Phillipe de Bouglon and his lovely wife Beatrice. This is an historic, grand family home and not a hotel. You are surrounded and reminded of the families history in every room and the generations that have lived there. photographs, mementos, the grand and the homely. We were lucky to experience a beautiful home cooked , 4 course dinner on our last evening and taste Phillipe’s own produced Armagnac. During your whole stay you are made to feel like a totally welcome guest in their home. The extensive gardens and grounds are a lovely place to walk and just sit. Seated directly opposite the main village square of Labastide d Armagnac, you’ll find a village steeped in its own history since 1291 .

We experienced a splendid evening with a very good dinner and a special tasting of all Baron du Prada Amagnacs. This was not influenced in any way by the host. After spending the night in the beautiful "Chambre du roi" we enjoyed a wonderful view of the park with old trees. Despite the high temperatures, the bottles survived the transport well and have been stored! This was certainly not our last visit to the Prada.
