The staff is not very friendly or welcoming. When, upon my arrival, the lady at the reception asked me if we wanted breakfast without explaining first what it contained, she raised her voice at me, annoyed probably that I only took 2 breakfasts for the adults (and not for our children) saying that people do not understand and they expect things. In the evening, we had dinner at the restaurant and when we called to book (we were in town) we were told that they accept us, but the kids had to be nice and not bother the other clients. The dinner was very good, however it took ages to order and to get some food (at least half an hour for the order and one hour after our arrival we still had not got any food). The kids were good though as they played in the garden away from the tables, but they were so hungry, I had to give them bread and crackers from the bag. The waiter forgot our wine bottle which we had to ask for again and he mixed the order and my husband did not get any starter. There was a problem with the service for sure as one table left without waiting anymore for their food. There were no more than 15 people, us included, in the whole restaurant, so not a particularly busy evening. Anyway, though we did get some ice cream to make up for the missed starter, we did not get any apologies or explanations for the delay. Also, the following day when we checked out, and went to pay the bills, the host was quite cold and formal and told us to leave the keys on the reception desk when we finished. It strike me as I had heard them earlier explaining the problem with the service and apologising to a previous French couple who left. They were very nice and warm when they bid them goodbye. Could have been a problem with us being foreigners? We speak fluent French though, as we have been living in France for 15 years. Anyway, though nice restaurant and hotel overall, I do not recommend it to families with kids or foreigners.

The hotel & restaurants are very nicely located a few steps away from the Loire river along which we had a nice stroll towards the center of the village (La Tour Pouilly) and we also took a bath in the river as it was such a hot day. They have nice, clean rooms and the breakfast is very good.

Room is a bit basic but we can live with that because of the excellent cuisine.

Easy to find location with a garden overlooking the Loire and having direct access onto riverside walks. The main reason for choosing Le Coq Hardi is the food in the restaurant. Monsieur Fonseca is a great chef producing excellent dishes. His sole waiter in the restaurant is a little brusque to say the least and at times makesBasil Fawlty look like a paragon of welcoming hospitality! It’s a pity really as is does diminish the overall dining experience.

This is a typical example of a hotel and restaurant that thinks it is much better than it really is. It trades heavily on its location and views over the Loire, and is overpriced accordingly, but the rooms are old fashioned and the food very average. My whole stay was ruined by the waiter refusing to serve me the gourmet menu after I had researched the menu in advance and set my heart and fasting for the whole day on being able to order it. I was told I would have insufficient appetite for the menu, not in a polite helpful way but in a cocky I know better than you way. Then to add another insult I was told that my choice of wine was wrong, again not in a helpful way but in an insulting way. I have been visiting Pouilly for over 30 years and I know what wines I like. The final straw was the same cocky waiter then attempted to charge me twice for my room on the final bill.

I have been visiting Pouilly sur Loire for the last 30 years plus and this hotel whilst on the outskirts is in an ideal location and superficially very modern and attractive. However the rooms reminded me of some of the rooms I used to stay in in the 80's in Pouilly. They were dated and old fashioned. The hotel trades largely on its location and views across to the Loire from the large room terraces and the outdoor terrace used by the Restaurant.
