Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SwedenReading the given instructions we found the building and got the keys to the apartment no problem, but then we found it particularly hard to work out which apartment was ours. I had to call the number given on booking.com to ask for help but the person who answered was without any additional information and just repeated the instructions I had back to me, which was really not helpful. Eventually we had to just try all the doors until we figured out which was ours. So a little extra sign or slightly more detail could have helped as the current instructions were not clear for us at all (for future reference IT'S THE 6TH DOOR going up the staircase haha!). Not a big problem though! Unfortunately our stay was ruined by very noisy neighbours who moved in on the second day of our trip. The first day was perfectly quiet and tranquil at the apartment, we barely heard the people in the apartment next to us and we were impressed by how quiet it was. Unfortunately once the next set of neighbours moved in they were extremely loud, leaving their doors open all day and going between two other apartments in the building (so we couldn't lock our passageway security door as they always opened it up again and left it open). So it was constantly loud with children running around outside our windows and adults have shouted loud conversations. We tried to ask them to keep the noise down but they didn't take any notice. I can't blame our apartment though, when the neighbours finally shut their front doors the noise was dramatically cut and it was peaceful again. If it wasn't for these particularly noisy and selfish neighbours it would have been the perfect stay!
A really great apartment with all the amenities necessary for a weekend stay. Comfortable, clean and still with a nice romantic French character from all the original wood and stonework, beautiful! It really is situated in the perfect location to visit all the popular parts of Lyon, you are a 5 to 10 min walk from everything!

SwedenThe deposit part was confusing. I was asked to pay a deposit/insurance (the type that covers potential damage) in advance and not via Booking but a link provided by the property. I thought it is a scam initially and contacted Bookings to double check. But it all worked out in the end, just an unusual way to pay.
Great location, very charming old building, quiet and relaxed even if in the lively old center, spacious room. I would stay here again.

United StatesWe like everything about it.
Wow, location, location, location. You are literally in the center of Vieux Lyon. Just a super short walk to the Cathedral Saint Jean, many many restaurants/bars, shops…. Right outside the gate. Shirt walk to Hop on and hop off bus route as well as boat tours. Excellent communication from host, with detailed instructions to access apartment. The taxi pulled right in front of building and we had no problems getting into the apartment. The few stairs to the first floor are very manageable with luggage. The apartment is very large for Europe standards with a large bed (my husband is 6’4). There is a smart TV, place to store and hang clothes and a table with 2 chairs. The kitchen has everything you need, microwave, toaster, coffee machine, espresso maker, kettle, fridge with freezer (we were glad to make ice cubes), utensils …. As well as a welcome kit which includes a sponge for the provided dish soap. The bathroom has a large shower with great warm/hot and strong water pressure, a towel heater, toilet, the sink come with another welcome kit which included q-tips, soap, file and cotton pads. Wi-Fi worked great and I would recommend this apartment to anyone and stay here again.

CanadaThe key lockbox required you to enter a code AND press buttons on either side to open. The latter wasn't included in the instructions. The rest of the process was complicated but understandable given that it is a medieval building.
There was no breakfast. Only coffee that we didnt use because there was no whitener. Was there supposed to be breakfast?

SpainNot recommendable for travellers who are very concerned about security. It is not clear when booking is prepaid that a security deposit is also required: that should be made very, very clear before booking and paying. (There was also a problem in this case with the security deposit holder who said that they had not received it when my bank confirmed that it was paid.)
Good location, reasonable size, good quality.

United KingdomKitchen somewhat underequiped. Would be nice to have a breadboard and bread knife, a washing up brush. Not over impressed with the so called welcome pack...2 Green Tea bags and a few packets of sugar. AND THEN THERE IS THE DEPOSIT...£500 rather steep in my opinion but I have no reason to fear it not being returned to my bank account...AND THE STRESSFUL ARRIVAL EXPERIENCE... To prevent anyone else suffering this trauma here are my notes. Firstly door No3 is on the left of the pharmacy. On the other side one finds Nos1, 4 & 5 which is very confusing. Secondly the badge to get the gate to open needs to be placed on the small black sensor at the bottom of the control panel to the left. Now you'll be inside and you'll find a confusion of doors off the stone spiral staircase at all sorts of levels. The route to Le Petit Change is not sign posted. Go up 7 stairs. To the left you'll see the green button that lets you out. Don't panic if it does not work first time. Just go back and press it again. Go up another 22 stairs and then rather than continue your ascent bear left onto a balcony...pushing open the unsigned blue door if it has been closed. You have arrived at the apartment. Next trauma is the key. To work the key...locking from inside, turn anticlockwise until it sticks then flip up the handle and with a swift movement complete the turn. To lock from the outside the key turns clockwise. There is a co-ordination issue here. The lift of the handle and the clunk of the key into full rotation has to happen in quick succession. In the end the Agency had to help me with this one. One of their team showed up at 9am on my first day. Many messages had been left on the evening of arrival.
Wonderful location. Smart little studio.

United StatesWe had trouble to lock the room. Since it’s not simple, it should be explained how to lock the room. The drainage of bath sink was slow. The shower tile needs to be cleaned. Wifi was week.
Bed linens and towels were good hotel quality. A bed was very comfortable.

AustraliaNothing really! it was a bit confusing to find the right door to open. It is 29 steps from the bottom to find the door to the 1st floor balcony. then we found our studio.
the property is perfect to Old Town Lyon. we were able to walk around the corner to many restaurants and the atmosphere is fantastic.

There was no normal a commodatipns nor readonable efforts made by the owner/ team. This was NOT A HOTEL. It was a room hidden away in a secret door that looked so old that when passers-by saw us entring it, they stared blankly! Requested more towels on day 2 but were told we only got ONE towel each for a week! The keys were HIDDEN & REQUIRED A SCANVENGER HUNT!! we were locked out also of the place & stuvk temporarily in the CAGE tgat encloses the entrance door. Tbis is a room inside a troboule. All night long lights went off when others entered who lived there. NOT A HOTEL & NO DESK FOR HELP!! GO THERE ONLY IF YOU WANT A SCAVENGER HUNT & WANT TO BE LOCKED IN! The door locked up & we coukd not exit fir several hours also. When we called for help, they did not answer. We had to yell for help to a nice young man who came & let us out by lufting the doir handle with its metal shaft tgat stuck unto the floor to lock it into place. The door windiw was falling out of the door & the door sometomes locked up. It was an exhausting experience!! You hear footsteps walking up the spirallling cement staircase tol about 3 am also. Lost lits of sleep & became ill from it all. Do NOT GO THERE if you want any help at all on your trip.
