Upgrade to better room for a great stay

The key to the room was inconvenient. Locking ourselves inside was uncomfortable and in emergency would be dangerous. The light timer in the entry was too short. There was thick dust in places (bottom shelf of closet). No coffee pod refills in the room. Noisy first floor. Window was only fresh air and exhaust from traffic was heavy in the room.

The staff were great; friendly and did their best. Bed was comfortable. Location was convenient.

Overall a comfortable hotel with its own faded charm.

The bath is not particularly easy to climb in and out of and the toilet is located in a separate room. The room was a bit scruffy, and could have been cleaner. There is no lift and visitors who have difficulty with stairs need to beware - your room might be up 4 flights of stairs!

The hotel is very small (8 rooms) across 4 floors of a tall narrow building and the staff are very friendly and helpful. It is in a good location, a few yards from La Canbiere and 10 minutes walk from the Old Port. The street is a bit scruffy but is quiet and felt perfectly safe. Breakfast is served overlooking a small planted courtyard and consists of the usual French fare with the addition of Moroccan pancakes which are delicious with honey. The room was quite large with painted walls and a tiled floor and three shuttered windows.

We did enjoy our stay and found Marseille to be a fascinating place

We were given the ground floor room for our first night, which was dark, we felt unable to open the windows and generally felt uncomfortable , although the room itself had all we needed. We had been told we would move the following day, but the man on reception was very unwilling to do so, and only did do so after we persisted. The room on the fourth floor was clean and airy , quite small ( yes it was standard room, the photos show other more spacious rooms) not a good beginning, but we felt more comfortable as the week progressed. The communal areas could do with refurbishment, chipped paint may be the Moroccan style, but not necessarily so. It looked tired, plants outside the main door were dead. First impressions count. The patio garden was lovely, but again needed a bit of attention.

Breakfast, room was very clean and had all we required, towels and linens were changed regularly. The man on reception for the majority of the time was very helpful. It’s near La Canabiere and very convenient for the vieux port and other sites.

No curtain on our shower so water got everywhere. 😬😬😬

This room was so cool and a great chance from the typical French hotel. There was plenty of room for us in the space!

Bath was in alcove off the main bathroom, with a low but wide, stone-topped parapet between them. This created an attractive appearance but was awkward when climbing into the bath and more so when climbing out when the bath was wet and slippery.

Small, friendly family run hotel in a quiet(ish) side street. Decent breakfast. Comfortable rooms but a lot of stairs to reach them.

It was very cold and wet in the room (November) and no decision to warm up the room, no heater, nothing. Also, the room was a bit old, not really clean and in general they should do a renovation or at least buy new things - nice lamps, etc.

I liked the location and style in general. It was a stylish hotel, but with old furniture and a bit dusted, old-fashioned. Photos are better on booking. Also, please be careful - prices on their website are much more low!

There was no elevator. The stairs were winding and difficult, especially for older travelers. The staff was very accommodating helping with the luggage, but we still had to climb the stairs to come in and out and go down to the courtyard area for breakfast. The shower was very difficult. It was a tub with a hand held fixture. There was no curtain so the bathroom got very wet. Again, not older traveler friendly. Probable the most difficult part of the hotel was the location. Ryad is located on a residential street. This was not an issue, but the discarded furniture and garbage from numerous buildings was! We had to walk past the same discarded debris everyday. It smelled so bad it was difficult to breath. It did not set a positive image for the hotel location. It was a very convenient location, with easy access by foot to transportation, the port and restaurants.

The property was dated but clean. The room was spacious and comfortable. I felt the pictures overstated the property.

There are piles of trash intermittently on the narrow street which I assume was a city maintenance problem.

The Ryad Hotel was the only Booking.com hotel to change the the dates of out stay when my husband became suddenly ill! When we finally arrived the staff was accessible, friendly and helpful. There is a wonderful enclosed garden patio where we took breakfast.

Was surprised that there wasnt any coffee or tea included as there was a coffee machine. The room was on the fourth floor with no lift, but knew that from the reviews.

Room is "rustic". Needs a bit of updating. Need better window coverings. Shutters are old and almost impossible to close. Street is very narrow and male resident across the street could look right into our room, especially at night! He spent a lot of time at his window. Area is a little iffy but we had no problem. Also bathtub was very difficult for me to get in and out but that's my mobility problem.

The room we were in was spacious, there is a mini fridge for drinks. Excellent location, 10 minutes walk to Old Port and public transportation. Staff was very good but not all speak English. We had several issues upon check-in that were resolved. Word of advice - I have mobility problems and asked for room on 1st floor. In France the first floor is what is considered to be the 2nd floor in the US. The staff did everything possible and were able to juggle rooms among guests to put me on their "1st" floor which meant that I only had to walk up and. down one flight of stairs to get to street level. The staircases are long and winding because this is an old building. There is no elevator.
