Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

We were the only guests during our stay and had the whole apartment to ourselves. We were delighted with the tastefully decorated interior, the comfy couches and the delightful bedroom. ( best bed ever!) Additionally our host Sandrine is an exceptional woman, funny warm and welcoming. Her breakfasts were perfect and generous. We loved marseille, the hikes in the calanques and the place. Perfect way to end our vacation. Merci Sandrine

United Statesonly one thing , it's almost impossible to see oneself in the bathroom mirror to shave or for make-up application. The small lights that are there don't help.

United StatesNothing worth mentioning.
It was a big room with nice updating on the second floor of a charming old home within a lively but quiet part of Marseilles in a nicely walkable neighborhood. Host Sandrine was superbly helpful with us as her guests, and we felt as if we were staying with family. Her continental breakfast was extraordinary. Kitchen and living room access were very convenient and much appreciated. En suite water closet was also a big plus in our particular room. We stayed there for two nights ahead of a Mediterranean cruise.

United KingdomI genuinely cannot think of anything to put here. We had such a lovely time.
This was an ideal place to stay in Marseille! The property is spacious with a large central living area and kitchen as well as a balcony to sit outside and enjoy the evening on. We stayed in the superior suite and the room was spacious, comfortable, beautifully decorated and with a large private bathroom as well. You could tell the building has history, and I loved the old style windows and shutters. Location wise, this is on a small and quiet street near a Metro station, St Charles and Vieux Port are a couple of stops away on the metro and it is easy to get around. During our stay we did not have much time to explore the local area, as we were visiting for the Rugby, so spent most time out at the Veldodrome. But what we did see had good amenities (small lidl nearby for nibbles and necessities for example). Our host Sandrine made the stay! I felt so welcomed, like I was in a family home! And Sandrine had all of the local knowledge to give, explaining the best ways to get about, key things to know, she even helped us arrange a taxi to the airport on departure, as well as providing a wonderful spread for breakfast with lots of homemade and local produce - I ended up taking the recipe for one the jams home with me! All in all I would 100% recommend this place to stay if visiting Marseille, and I will definitely be back myself.

United KingdomMaybe a door for the bathroom/toilet as opposed to a screen - but it didn't impact on our overall stay
Breakfast was excellent - typically French with croissants, wonderful tasty fresh bread and different prepared friuit on the three days. Our host (Sandrine) was lovely, very friendly and extremely helpful giving us advice on eg travelling around the city.

We liked everything! Our hostess, Sandrine, is an incredible lady and very helpful! Breakfast is very fresh, very nice. The location is quiet. You can walk to the port 35 minutes, or take the bus which is one block away. Restaurants and bakeries very close by.

United KingdomThere is no AC in the room, but the host provides us a standing fan. It still can be a bit hot at night. Also, the hot water broken before we arrive, so no hot water in the room. Regardless these two factors, I’m very happy about my stay. The host made it very pleasant. Highly recommend this place.
A very beautiful family house, all the display/decoration in the house are amazing. The host lives on the ground floor, and all the guest rooms are on the first floor. Our room is spacious and very beautifully decorated. It comes with own toilet and shower room. Our room is not facing the garden but has nice daylight from outside. It’s also quiet at night. Three rooms to share a big living room and dining room. First night I’m the only guest so I have the whole floor by myself. There is also a fridge to get auto chill water, very handy. You can ask to use the fridge if you want to store a bit of food. Best host I ever met, she is very hospitable and made us feel like home. She said ‘this is a place to relax’ so she made our visit very comfortable and flexible.

AustriaVery big apartment and room, with a nice view into a beautiful garden with huge old plane trees and even an owl living there. Super nice and friendly owner who prepares a rich and good breakfast every day. Metro station Chartreux very close, doesn't take long to get to the Orange Velodrome or the Vieux Port. We had an amazing time there, highly recommended!

United StatesLe Transvaal Maison d'Hotes was truly a wonderful stay and Sandrine was a wonderful host. The suite was amazingly comfortable and beautifully decorated and in a fabulous location. The breakfasts were always delicious and bountiful. Sandrine was a very kind and gracious hostess, giving us plenty of insider tips about the city and working with us through the small language barrier. Our favorite stay of our honeymoon trip!

Germany- The breakfast is not flexible, it's served earliest around 8:45 AM. - For a better air circulation, you have to leave the windows open. The smoke of other people on the ground floor comes directly to the room. - There were a few spots on the toilet under the plastic seats that were not seen or forgotten to be cleaned.
- The old apartment with its beautiful classic furniture takes you back to the 19th century. At the same time, you enjoy the equipment of today. - In general, everything was clean and of high quality, for example the towels, the toilet papers, glasses, dishes, etc. - The authentic friendly staff (better said, the business owner.) - The breakfast: [some may like it, some may not like it because the options are limited.] It was served in the common living room on a cozy table with other guests. It contains a bowl of single-type fruit (melon, strawberries, etc.), orange juice (not natural), and coffee/tea with fresh and delicious french breads (croissants, baguette, etc.), with several types of jams, and a delicious local chocolate cream. - The location is easily accessed by the public transport. Marseille has a great and cheap public transport, there is no need for a car or bike. - There is a single free garage (only for small cars.)

United KingdomBehind a discreet frontage on a side street lies this beautiful house, full of history, art and a touch of magic. Sandrine is an open, warm and generous host - breakfast is particularly generous! I liked the fact that the house isn’t in a touristy area but that it is easy to get the metro or just walk to the Vieux Port etc. And the chilled water dispenser in the communal area is a godsend on a hot day!

The room and the bathroom were very big and spacious. The interiors are very beautiful and stylish, as the whole apartment. Sandrine is an energetic and welcoming host, who is also glad to answer your questions about Marseille (i.e. where to eat, what to see...). The position is good: with the metro you can easily reach the Vieux Port and other highlights of Marseille. But you can also take a nice walk if you feel like doing it.

SwitzerlandThere is really nothing negative to say about this maison d'hôtes.
I really liked everything. This beautiful apartment is located almost next to the Metro station "Chartreux", which brings you to the old port in no time. The room was exactly as advertised and the apartment and its furniture are just gorgeous. You will find yourself in what we call an "Altbauwohnung" in German, with parquet floors, high ceilings, old fireplaces, and luminous windows. The breakfast is simple but very fresh containing baguettes, croissants and pain au chocolat. There is also fresh coffee from the Moka pot, orange juice and fruit. And the landlady, Sandrine, will be one of the nicest persons you will meet in all of Marseille. If I ever get to visit Marseille again, I will book with her again.

United KingdomSome of the features listed on the Booking.com room description were not provided, for example toiletries and a hairdryer. Also, the room does not lock from the outside so we were a little concerned about leaving valuables in there when going out for the day.
Our room and the communal areas were beautiful, with a lovely view of the garden. Everything was spotlessly clean and the bed was very comfortable. Sandrine was a warm and welcoming host who prepared a nice breakfast of bread, croissants, homemade jam and fresh orange juice. We had a lovely time and I would definitely recommend this Bed and Breakfast to anyone who is looking for a peaceful place to stay while in Marseille.
