The steps up to property were a little steep, but otherwise, easily doable.

A charming property, set in a beautiful French Village in the heart of Normandy. We were there to visit my Uncle who is buried at Ranville CWGC Cemetery, which was not a couple of miles away. The property was comfortable and warm with a small kitchenette. The bathroom and shower were splendid.

    All good for me

This was a gem of a property for me. It’s in the heart of Amfreville to which I am connected personally as it was the village where my father who was serving with No.4 Commando reached on the evening of D. Day having landed on Sword beach before linking up with Airborne troops at Pegasus Bridge. I have fond and emotional memories of this village and visited many times with dad. The property was a self contained bed sit with all necessary facilities, a small terrace and with views over the green towards the church and Commando memorials

Observations rather than a dislike - the cottage lacked some amenities such as a dishwasher or washing machine, however this is part of it's rudimentary charm. A 'comfort' pack (with tea, coffee, local jam etc) , even if charged for, would be my one suggestion of improvement.

The location, a quiet village, was superb. The building itself dates from the 17th century and is delightlfully charactful. It looks onto a private garden, which you share with some of the owner's menagerie! Amfreville itself offers a butcher and a baker, though watch out for opening times/days. The village and surrounding is full of world war 2 history, literally on the front line of hostilities between the Allies and the Axis.

The second unit I booked for a family with 3 young children would not have been suitable for a crawler/toddler - steep stairs, banister with wide spacing, hard floors. Luckily our granddaughter is not at that stage yet!

Beautiful accommodation in a glorious garden setting. Our one night stay prior to catching the early ferry home didn't do it justice. Would definitely return if we needed accommodation in that area again. Great walk in shower.

No breakfast available however there was a kitchen in both rooms our group had so it was easy to manage. Probably would be more suitable for a longer stay than an overnight.

Very clean and tastefully furnished. Well appointed room, towels were a bit old but there were plenty of them. Beautiful well kept garden with lovely pets outside. A charming and helpful host with good knowledge of the area and perfect English.

A beautiful, traditional property with lots of character and excellent hosts. We planned our stay to enable us to visit an uncle who was killed in the military actions in 1944. We also had time to visit the new memorial at vers sur mer.

There was a coffee machine - but zero coffee pods provided. We were only left a single (nearly finished) loo roll…

Lovely location before a daytime ferry from Caen. An evening walk to the bar in the next town toward the coast, and lots of interesting WW2 memorials nearby.

An exceptional place in the countryside to spend your holiday in a beautiful region. Open, friendly, welcoming atmosphere. A superb apartment - with the precious French touch. A gem preserved by good people for good reason. We would be pleased to return for an other weekend.

Located on the second story up narrow stairs.

The room came with a small kitchenette although we did really use it. The overall size of the room was good and comfortable. The place has a pleasant garden to enjoy. The location is close to several D-Day sites including the British Cemetery. Enjoyed learning of the history of the place during the battle for Caen from the owner.

Possibly a blind in the bathroom window.

Great location, just 10 minutes from the sea. Lovely clean room, with tasteful decoration and amenities, to make your own small meals. Great hosts, Nicholas & Will, full of useful information on the area. Would definitely go back.

The accomodation is down by the side of the house , throug the garden gate , around the garden path and then up some steep , stone steps. Noe of this was clear from the booking details. I imagine in the summer its quite pleasant but it was dark and raining during our stay , the overhanging foliage was dripping water , the path required care , the steps were wet and had leaves on - more care required. My wife has slight mobility problems and so more care required ! The host made a brief appearance , took me to the door , gave me the key and left me to it. (It was cold and raining). We managed but it wasn't a 5* welcome. The room was cold when we arrived and took a while to warm up by the electric heater. I never did really work out the bathroom heater but it wasn't a deal breaker in itself.

Firstly , how did we come to stay there.... We were travelling with sports equipment in and on the car. I wanted a one night lay over , ideally in Ouistreham to catch an early ferry. I try to scrutinize the accommodation carefully for security , parking , accessibility , convenience etc. whilst doing so (in Ouistreham) I saw several references in customer feedback to 'clandestines' and 'youths' loitering around , even around hotels just outside the town and so we felt obliged to look further afield than ideally we would have wanted. I emailed my preferred hotel in the centre explaining the situation re sports equipment and that it was not easily unloaded but the reply came back that there is a presence of 'clandestines' but the police are watching and I should just ensure my vehicle was locked and no valuables were on display. I think they missed the point. Upon arrival in Ouistreham in the afternoon there were plenty of young black males in small groups and pairs wandering around or loitering about so our decision to stay outside the town appeared justified. We drove to Amfreville in the early afternoon to find the accommodation in daylight. The village is about 10K from the port and very quiet. Parking is on the front of the house and not secure but as it was so quiet I was not troubled by that. It probably provides a good base for exploring the area and the northern French coast. (Melville was decent.) The room was clean and comfortable and adequate for our need for one night.
