Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe reception layout was a bit strange, and it wasn't always staffed when we came in, which wasn't very reassuring. They were staff, but they weren't visible. I found it a bit annoying that we couldn't just walk upstairs to our first floor room but had to use our key card to use the lift, but in retrospect I understand the extra security. We only had breakfast on Day 1. By 10am the bread was stale, so as it was quite expensive, we gave up after that. However, I rapidly developed Covid in Marseille and couldn't taste anything anyway. Advise people to have breakfast early!
First of all, we stayed the weekend before the late June 2023 riots in France and are aware that La Canebière was affected. We hope that the staff, customers and fabric of this lovely hotel stayed safe. La Canebière is fine otherwise - just a typical big city road, though it's closed to private traffic - an excellent location for Le Vieux Port and for trams, metro etc. Amazing walk down to the port. The nearby back streets are fascinating with markets full of fruit, vegetables and north African spices plus little cafes and cake shops. The spacious room overlooked the main road but was very quiet and comfortable. The tea and coffee plus kettle was appreciated. The breakfast room was very attractively set out.

United KingdomThere are huge TV’s in the room however no way to connect your phone. This is a minor thing however there were no English Channel and so this would have been a comfort if it was possible. The air con was locked at 23 degrees. It was around 34 degrees outside and would have loved to be able to change the temp ourselves. At no fault of the hotel, the area doesn’t feel safe- particularly at night. The hotel itself feels very safe but the area didn’t however.
The staff were the best part about our experience here. So welcoming and incredibly helpful. We arrived late, we were upgraded for free and when we realised the room was fairly claustrophobic (top floor, small windows) the amazing staff member at the front desk sorted it straight away and put us in a different room (5 floor). When leaving they helped us get a taxi no problem. The room was large and clean and the bed was very comfortable.

JapanA receptionist whom I asked for a taxi booking at the time of check-in didn't do it. I tried to reconfirm the booking with reception much in advance next morning. A receptionist helped me immediately and I had no issue at last. But at the time of check-out, I saw other tourists trying to ask for a taxi at the reception but in vain because of no availability of taxi then. If I had not noticed a failed booking, I would have been in trouble with taxi. This shouldn't happen at 4-star hotel.
Breakfast was the best among the hotels I stayed during 8-day / 8 different hotels in my voyage with wide variety of food and beverage like a lot of cheese, hams, bread, hot stuff, fresh juice particularly squeezed orange juice, etc. It was conveniently located, both the Vieux-Port and la gare de Marseille Saint-Charles are within walking distance.

United KingdomLocation was great for exploring but as you can expect being right outside the tram stop sometimes it felt a bit too much buzz around. I didnt need to open my windows so it was not an issue but i can imagine it could be a bit noisy on a hot day as the aircon seemed to be set on a certain temperature and i could not figure out how to change it (the screen just showed a lock sign everytime i tried to press buttons to change the setting/temperature)
My room was very clean and nicely decorated. The bed was spacious and very comfortable. The woman at front desk when i arived did not speak very good english so it was dificult to comunicate but every other receptionist i spoke to throughout the rest of my stay were super friendly, i do want do give a special mention to Ryad because he provided 5 star service everytime i had any questions or requests. I would definitelly stay in this hotel again.

MexicoThe bathroom was separated from the shower (which seems common in France but still, I prefer hotels with normal bathrooms), also, I found some little hairs in the bathroom at the arrival, so detail to the cleaning would be good.

United KingdomThe hotel was generally very clean but we got a bit unlucky with room service. They forgot to clean our room one day and failed to replenish the tea and milk in the room throughout our stay. Having said that, the reception staff were quick to remedy the situation.
The hotel is in an xcellent location short 10 minute walk to the port. Close to Metro stations and trams so you can explore the whole city. The breakfast was delicious.

ItalyThe range of food in the restaurant was rather limited - we would have appreciated simpler options for younger people. The staff was, however, extremely helpful.
My 17-year-old daughter appreciated the location between St. Charles and the Vieux Port, the quiet room and the staff, which was helpful and kind, especially Marwa in Reception and Charles in the restaurant.
