Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomOn arrival it felt like you were walking in to a commune, which was very different. Though I had not seen it in the small print, it says bring your own linen and towels. I was charged a further 10 euros for this and had to make the bed and strip it in the morning. I was also told to clean the room before leaving. The soap in the bathroom dish was used, as was a small bottle of complimentary shower gel (from another hotel) on the floor of the shower. The loo paper roll was half finished and it was not clear that anyone had cleaned since the last occupier presumably cleaned on leaving. The owner was sweet but did not seem particularly happy with foreigners. She phoned a friend to give me the instructions.
quirky nice urban oasis, interesting room

United KingdomOn reflection I would prefer linen and towels to be provided although that was an option which we could have taken. So it was our choice that I slightly regret.
The location is very good on the same street as the Corderie Royale and with easy walking along the river to the harbour. Kitchen facilities make it easy to make your own breakfast. On street parking was easily available and there is also a small car park a couple of minutes away. Shops, cafes etc all very nearby. But mainly we liked its unique character - the garden with plants, trees, flowers behind the gate, a couple of cats and some hens. It was very soothing on a hot June afternoon. The owner was helpful and friendly and her personality is evident in the decor and atmosphere of her house.

Original, very charming, slightly quirky place. Lovely leafy and slightly overgrown courtyard which provided shade and an area to sit. Old building and a whole apartment.

NetherlandsThe appartement is reasonable priced and okay value for money, but it gives a bitter aftertaste if you need to pay an additional € 24 for towels en bed linnen. Many people who stay at this place cycle the Velodysee and don't travel with towels and bed linnen. I advise including it in the room rate to avoid unnecessary surprises. There is no wifi. It would have been nice if there was a teabag or coffee cup in the apartment. We had to ask for extra toilet paper. I have a bad back and the matrass was way to worn out and soft for me. My partner did not had this problem. The owner does not speak a single word of English and was annoyed by the slightest sound ( we rang the door bell twice, our five year old son did not speak soft enough).
Good location in centre of town. Nice outdoor patio with many plants

United KingdomThe apartment was a bed sit, not an apartment. It was not very clean and needed maintenance. The room was overstuffed with random uncoordinated clutter including a massive plant that filled one corner of the room. Radiator was hanging off of the wall, nail heads sticking up from the floorboards, bathroom in desperate need of complete refurb and staircase was in need of repair. Courtyard garden was overgrown.
Central location, parking for bicycles in courtyard, friendly staff.

I had such a wonderful time at the Terra-Crystal and cant wait to return. This sort of accommodation and way of staying wont be for everyone but I appreciate its personal and holistic ways. The cats, the garden, the peaceful nature. For the first time in a long time I was able to rest. If you are looking for a high quality hotel where you come and go this is not for you. If you are looking for a communal way of staying where you put in what you take out then this is perfect.

GermanyThe "Bring your own bed-linen"-concept is obviously stated in the description. Still we don't like that idea too much. To rely on the before-sleepers to have come with clean & sufficiently covering stuff... :-( Sleeping comfort / bed was not too good. Preparation of bathroom was somewhat limited. Quiet steep & narrow staircase - well, to be fair: that's a historic building obviously. More or less everybody/apartment can view everybody else around that inner courtyard.
Great centric setting! Still quiet enough as rooms/apartments are facing inner courtyard, no windows to outside (at least our apartment). Historic center with lots of restaurants, covered market but also touristic sights in walking distance. The hostal as such it's definitely a very personal setting. Don't expect anything resembling "hotel". Inner courtyard/terrace is a gem for any botanist. :-) Our French is unfortunately too limited for any conversation around that topic... Parking in the street seems to be available in sufficient quantity. Free-of-charge overnight, but costly during daytime.
