Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomHad to pay extra €5 for parking. L’Escale Marine is a separate building to the main (posher) hotel next door and is ok, but is slightly run down eg worn out/stained carpets.
Good value for money. Good self serve continental breakfast included in our deal. Bed was comfortable. Staff were very helpful and pleasant

United KingdomWe received an indifferent welcome, by a receptionist, who let us leave our bags in the lobby. However, on checking in, we observed that there was a designated, secure, baggage room, which we were clearly not allowed to use. The WiFi did not work. Further, we suffered the distain of the receptionist when we said we didn't want to book the hotel breakfast. The morning receptionist was lovely, though.
Location: very near the beach and restaurants.

United KingdomWifi signal often poor, and sometimes unavailable because “maximum capacity”. Noise from cafe across the street a bit loud when having to keep windows open. Bit far from Douarnenez by foot.
Clean (though needed to book for regular cleans during our stay). Comfortable beds. Ideal location with respect to beach.

FranceStrong smell of damp in all communal areas, particularly entrance foyer and staircase. Worn-out carpet on the stairs so it feels poorly maintained. Unfortunately, building work 2 rooms away with the noise of power tools at various moments during my two-day visit. I had booked to have peace and quiet for a work project, which was noted on my reservation. I tried calling reception on 4 separate occasions but the only time I got an answer was from a central client service desk. When I did finally speak to the receptionist, she hadn't even been told about the building work. I later learned that this accommodation is being upgraded next year and that this building work is to prepare a template room, but that didn't help my experience.
Great location, a couple of minutes' walk to the beach and coastal path. Underground passage to the spa facilities for those who wish to use that. Comfortable bed and pillows. Large desk, plenty of storage.

SwedenExcept location there were not so many other positive experiences. The room we got (family room for 4 persons) is falling apart. Cleaning efforts were made but you cannot keep the room in that shape clean. Especially bathroom and toilet. Carpets were quite nasty too. Cannot comment other rooms but the impression is that this is valid for complete building. Which would be ok for different price category. Feels overpriced. Wifi is a disaster. Better to say that there is no wifi. Elevator is working but it is better to take the stairs.
Location is what made us to book this place. There is free parking available on the street while hotel is charging for their own parking. We parked on the street.

United KingdomBathroom was mouldy Misleading advertising Pool was €19 each to use per day The receptionist at checkin seemed embarrassed to even tell us where our hotel was- not in the actual building where you check in. This hotel is across the street from where you expect. Ripped carpets up to the room, no reception and poor Wifi. The room was far too hot during the night with no air con, opening windows meant hearing everyone in the nearby bars.
Location was OK with a tiny view of the sea

United KingdomI believe this property is guilty is false advertising. Having gone back and looked at the Booking.com photos, the bedroom shots were patently taken the day the rooms were painted, which I would imagine was many years ago. The bedrooms were mainly clean but very shabby and tired, the main staircase is threadbare with opaque/blown windows. The rest of the photos apply to the other four star hotel and whilst the L’Escale Marine hotel has access to spa facilities located in the A La Baie hotel, they certainly aren’t included. The staff were particularly dismissive. The rooms were cheap and the above would explain why. I have no problem with budget hotels, but expectations need to managed in advance.
