Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomI booked this apartment in the morning of my stay, as I had an emergency call out for work which required me staying in London. The property asks for a phone call 15 minutes before arrival. Called; no answer - it's a mobile number with no activated voicemail. Eventually arrived and the building was locked. I was let in by the caretaker who doesn't have voicemail. There are no staff, apart from him and there's a bit of a language barrier. I've stayed in similar apartments with no issues whatsoever. Firstly, he asked for my passport and photographed it; this is against GDPR, unless I have given consent and the details are stored securely; I've checked with the passport office, they cannot copy a UK, or any EEA passport. Secondly, as I had pre-paid, I asked for a receipt/invoice and he could not give me one. Thirdly, he asked me for £500 in cash as a deposit which would be returned to me the following morning (this is was on the booking details sent to me after I had paid - I asked what is was for and he said 'damage', I then asked what the process is, and he said he checks the room in the morning and if it's ok, I get the cash back, when questioned about if it wasn't okay or if there was a dispute, what would happen, he said he would just keep the money). As I would be leaving the accommodation before his return to work the following day (5am), I had no way of getting my cash back. He gave me the office number and I called them to ask to leave the deposit on a debit card but they said no, it had to be cash. With no way of getting my cash back, I couldn't give him the deposit, so we were in a catch 22 situation. I called the office number and asked for a refund. Refused. Was told to speak to Booking.com, did that, all Booking.com did was call them and ask for a refund. Refused. They asked them for an invoice. Still don't have it. Only stay here if you're prepared to carry £500 cash around Whitechapel/Shadwell.
Nothing. Didn't get past 'security'.

SwedenEmployess. Even though I have 3 small children, I was warned to keep the children quiet in a disrespectful way. Even though we were all asleep at 10pm.The employee who greeted the customer was not friendly or hospitable at all. Have the room cleaned only once in 10 days. We only bought it once, in clean sheets.

United KingdomThough I understand these are serviced apartments, as a property manager myself for high end residential , these are not of the standard to warrant a £500 cash deposit for damages. £100 would be more than sufficient and also should be payable by card not cash!
Great distance to the location I was attending and a very secure building.

GermanyThe apartment was not well kept at all, stains on couch pillows - nightstands chipped and marked up - the futon in the living room was torn all the way up - the towels were very poor quality, thin and scratchy. The £500 deposit is insane for an apartment that already costs over £300 a night. Paying for late check in when I already paid for the apartment from 3pm on is also ridiculous, I’m not even utilizing the space that I paid for, for all those hours. No luggage storage, no early check in, no late check out. It was just not ideal for the price.
It’s a spacious apartment

NetherlandsFor some reason the programme of the temperature in the house is always set at 29 degrees. 29!!!!! We woke up every night from the heat to switch it off again, only to wake up early in the morning, again from the heat. I have no clue why they have it set that high but it was crazy warm inside and we couldn't turn it off because it would change back every time. Besides the heat we didn't sleep very well because the mattresses are the most terrible I've ever slept on. So soft, you could feel the wooden plints in your back. The couches were also so soft, so not very comfortable to sit on. The shower in one of the bathroom is a bit clogged and moisty. The hallway smelled like weed. It was so bad that it made us really nauseous. Luckily you didn't smell it in the apartment, but it was awful. It's not very expensive (for London) so I guess okay value for money.
The communication was pleasant and quick.
