My only concern was that on the day we arrived there were only 2 staff (Morag and Henry) who both were run off their feet but coped admirably and we were well looked after - I hope they get more staff in before it gets busier.

This was a unique property in a very remote area - the route in from Helmsdale cutting in off the coast was as empty of people as you are likely to see. Food was very good and staff very friendly and helpful.

I've send a message by the booking.com message system 2 days in advance to ask the hotel, if its possible, to change the room from the boocked twin to a double room. The message was not read (or not received). No changing of room possible. The hotel was NOT fully boocked. Only 2 people (including me) used the restaurant for diner, 3 for breakfast

    location enough parking places

The perfect base for climbing Ben Hope or Ben Klibreck. Like many places they are a little short staffed at the moment but nothing was too much trouble and we received a very warm welcome. Our room was very comfortable and had a lovely traditional feel.

TV wasn’t up to much, but that’s the only negative and didn’t really bother us at all.

Lovely old fashioned hotel. Really welcoming, coal fire in the bar. Great breakfast too. Shower was good and plenty of hot water.

We ask for a ground floor room because of mobility issues, which turned out to be a very big lovely room, but with only a small heater to warm it up, which it didn’t. We was given the option of a coal fire lighting but going out all day that wouldn’t have worked. Breakfast there was always something they had run out of, but dinner was very good.

Very quiet and peaceful . Plenty of space for dogs to enjoy.

the very warm welcome on a freezing windy night after a long drive. the bedroom was cosy and comfortable and the food was very good. Also a good selection of malt whisky and advice to go with it. the two dogs were made very welcome as well and we all enjoyed sitting round the fire chatting with all the other guests in this remote spot.

the staff looked like they couldn’t be bothered food wise they didn’t have non dairy milk which surprised me. at breakfast I asked for gluten free bread and the waiter said they had none - I had some the night before, he didn’t even check. I told him and he came back with some

location - but there was nothing else around the place itself looked very quaint and it was fine for us

Thinking about it, I can't think of anything I didn't like in this particular visit.

I enjoyed ALL the facilities. I was one of only 3 people staying as it was the end of season and it's a fisherpersons/hunting lodge so was quite different for me It's a big building with lots of character, I do feel though a few things could be updated but I think it would lose its character in all honesty. The breakfast was lovely with a great choice that was a standard price out of 6 hotels/b&bs I stayed in doing the NC500. (Anti-clockwise btw). I particularly love the fact I have my own bathroom, that means alot to me. I'd stay again. Loved the chef's wee pet dogs also.

The room felt a little cramped for 2 tall men in a twin room, considering size of property. one lamp did not work.

Friendliness of staff and a good old Scottish feel about this middle of nowhere hotel! Lovely restaurant and yummy breakfast. comfy beds.

We booked two rooms, one was excellent with new furnishings and decorated. The second room was old and in need of renovation, one of the twin beds needed a mattress.

Excellent moorland and hill location, quiet and undisturbed. Breakfast was good and wholesome. Evening dinner excellent value. Staff very helpful and kind.
