How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Clean, good location for what we wanted to do, private parking, everything you would need in the room- plates, cups, kettle, coffee etc. Generally really nice stay, very relaxed place. Great hosts😊

Small double room was well appointed for self-catering but cramped. Only one chair. (add a folding one?) We also struggled to find the property in the dark. Amherst label was very modest. Be sure you have a street map.
Non resident Manager was very concerned that we should register online and gain access on Boxing Day. Was helpful when I spoke to him. (You need mobile phone and internet to use this guesthouse.) Very clean. Comfortable bed.

The road might be a bit noisy if you stayed in summer and needed to sleep with the windows open. I stayed in October so this wasn't a problem for me. However, the owners supplied ear plugs in case you needed them. Very thoughtful.
Friendly welcome. The bedroom and bathroom were great. A fridge, microwave, crisps and biscuits were a welcome bonus. Check in and out was simple. I will happily stay again. Thanks.

I travel regularly to Reading for work and can't believe I've never come across this place before! I knew I was going to be late checking in but this was all facilitated and the room & particularly the shower was great. Will stay again.

Near a noisy road although not too bad through the night.

the bed, for me, was too soft!
all the little extras - earplugs; sewing kit; toiletries; shower cap; bottled water, snacks-ie biscuits and crisps. also very clean. stand in manager Ruslan was very nice, thoughtful, helpful and went out of his way-over and above.

The noise from the road, maybe a good double glazed window will be good. The ear buds came handy but the noise could still be heard. Also the curtain wasn't blackout as I expected. So I had to use eyeshield. It would be good to try and make provision- good blackout curtains for night work professionals. Since they sleep during the day. However it was a good experience overall
The facilities-the fridge, microwave, kettle and the tea provision was really good. The ear buds also came handed due to noise from the road.

The room was exceptionally clean, with a large comfy double bed and lots of extra amenities - there were even wine glasses and a bottle opener! It's also in a great location close to Reading town centre and Reading West station. Perfect room for a couple. (The only improvement I could suggest? Please add curtains as the blinds let in a lot of light!)

Had to wait in during the morning to pay. Not a huge problem but being able to pay through Booking would help.
Friendly host with great communication. Room was small but well equipped.

Room was cold. Owner was creepy (e.g. demonstrating how to lock the bedroom door when it was just him and me in the room). Also got off to a bad start when the first thing he told me about the room was a repair that needed to be done to the room (setting me up to feel like I was going to have loads of issues) then asking if his mate could come and fix it the next day while I was still there (I was only staying 2 days so for the sake of 24 hours I wouldn't have had two strangers in my room potentially rifling through all my things). Nothing bad happened but I did barricade my door because I just got a bad vibe
Complimentary biscuits, crisps, hot chocolate were a really nice surprise on top of the advertised tea and coffee. Also really liked having a microwave in the room.

It was a little noisey at night until midnight, so wore earplugs which they provided
