Comfortable room and bed, good sized bathroom, with both bath and walk in shower. Plenty electric sockets and in the right places, ie close to dressing table mirror. Friendly hosts., nothing was too much trouble

Whether arriving in Shifnal by train or by car, the location couldn't be more convenient. Our bed was super-comfortable and the full English breakfast set us up for the day. The hosts were accommodating, friendly and down to earth. I would definitely stay at the Anvil Lodge again, in fact they might have difficulty persuading me to leave next time!

Nothing to dislike. Would recommend a stay at this hotel and we plan to return next year for the same show.

The rooms were very large and well appointed, comfortable with a onsite bathroom and shower. Two beds in the room, one was a super king and was so large it needed a sat nav to orientate oneself. The other was a single but plenty of space to move around in the room. The breakfast was exceptional cooked to order with a selection of cereals and fresh orange juice followed by full English breakfast. Being an ex-landlord the host was very friendly with a dry sense of humour and very knowledgeable of the surrounding area. Very good pub next door similar name but not connected and had good atmosphere. We ate out at one of the several restaurants in Shifnal which was 10 mins walk away. No noise was noted from the neighbouring pub when we returned to the room. We only stayed for one night as we were visiting RAF Cosford museum and a model aircraft show at Weston Park. Free parking worked a dream.

Aggressive and unpleasant host.

I did not stay at the property. I booked it at 6pm as I had to make an emergency trip. At 8.30pm the owner called me and aggressively asked me when I was going to get there. I had said 11 to midnight on the form. He check in was by 10pm and I should have read that on the booking. He said he may be around but couldn't guarantee it. i said I didn't want to be stranded and I could cancel and get a refund. he said he didn't do refunds and the money had been taken. He was unpleasant and hostile and I would not have wanted to stay there so I did not go. I complained to booking who did not refund and nor did he. He claimed that he could have had a booking but at that time of night that was extremely unlikely. Difficult to understand why he is still in the business - he was so unpleasant. There are plenty of other places with more understanding hosts so avoid this one.

Staff where extremely ignorant towards the people staying in the hotel. Initially was made to leave the hotel and get changed in the back of the van as there is a no work clothes policy (I didn't notice this when booking as it isn't in the main text/requirements so partly understandable) but to make people get changed outside or in a vehicle is ridiculous, surely they could have been more understanding towards the fact it was a mistake. Wasn't allowed to park the work vehicle (Van) on the car park and was told to "move that thing off my car park"- even though there is free parking and no mention of no work vehicles. The man who checked them in was so rude - again adamant that there was no food or drinks to be consumed in the room (again understandable) but they aren't children water is surely acceptable! As this is a pub, the people staying there went for food and drinks at the pub - they then was accused of STEALING items such as darts from the pub which is absolutely horrific to wrongly accuse 2 people of stealing especially when they are staying at the same pub/hotel!! We was made to feel extremely uncomfortable while staying here. The staff where that rude to the people staying at this hotel they decided that they would come home for the second night. So not only did The Anvil Lodge abuse our staff for the night they also got an extra payment for being so arrogant and rude!!! I would ask for a refund for the second night but is it really worth arguing with such bad mannered horrible people. I hope they feel better about themselves for their behavior on the day of our stay and I really hope they don't treat all their visitors like this !! Absolutely disgusting behavior from the Landlord- will never book this hotel again. DO NOT BOOK FOR WORK PUROPSES.

Sadly no hot water. Lovely room, nicely maintained by wife. Sadly didn’t like breakfast, as had owner and his strong opinions while eating, not at all peaceful.
