How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.

Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

No plug so I couldn't have a bath. Light in hallway flickered. Said there was a sofa be but no bedding was provided, so it was lucky my son decided not to come.
The little extras such as books, games plants. Near to amenities. Good equipment in kitchen. Great Chinese takeaway few doors down and helpful lady in shop over the road.

Couple of extra pillows or towels would have been helpful.

Bed was v uncomfortable - we had to layer up underneath us to stop springs digging in ribs. Shower is ok, but seemed to struggle to get hot enough (but appreciate subjective / I like scalding 😂)
Good location and communication - the guide to the parking/keys with photos v. helpful, thank you. We loved the real plants in the place :) Warmed up quickly once heating turned on. V. useful that there were plentiful hooks!

Could have done with the heating on and bathroom a bit dated, but ok.

Very clean apartment bed 🛏 really comfortable great size rooms kitchen well equipped also had a shop opposite and the pavilion 🎭 theatre just a 10 minute drive would recommend others to stay there 😊

Location, lots of take aways nearby, walking distance to seaside. Comfortable, homely feel, parking outside on the drive, little gesture of information in the apartment. Lots of messages from Tanya with photos, about how to get in the apartment, which was thoughtful too.

Not a lot to criticise. Wife was bit concerned about stairs but not a massive drawback.
Very clean and welcoming. Only stayed one night but free parking was good. Very near sea and facilities.

I couldn't get the toilet to flush ..but not a problem as my partner could. There was a notice explaining but I just couldn't do it 😅
The apartment was perfect for whst we needed it for ..provided a nice space to chill and relax

Couldn't find fault! would definitely stay again!
Location couldn't be better! 5 mins walk from beach, very close to aquarium and less than a 15 minute walk from adventure island and Southend shopping centre! The flat was clean and had everything one could need, with a good size fridge/freezer, plenty of seating options, 2 sofas and chairs and a good size sturdy table, TV was a little tricky, but it did work! Bedroom was a little snug, but ok, really appreciated a bed lamp at each side of the bed, bathroom was clean and comfortable but didn't have a lock.

Situated not far from sea front but road was in a really run down , scruffy area. Apartment was very cluttered . Suitable for a weekend or a couple only for longer stays , otherwise would be too cramped . No drying facilities, with did ask about a maiden but it didn’t happen . Just bought a cheap one ourselves . Microwave oven no instructions. Although hob and toaster adequate . Needs decluttering and paint job .
Was clean on the whole . Bags of hot water and good shower . Had washing machine . Parking. Host did introduce herself .
