How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Fridge not cleaned out. Sorry! Half empty bottle of water in it. Pool busy and floor of change room very wet - should be mopped more frequently especially during busy times.
Great location and good view from room. Bathroom is very modern.

Had to get someone to take our restaurant order, seemed to ignore / forget about our section of the restaurant. Staff were polite though.

You (booking.com) told me my booking included breakfast. I am adamant about this and travel frequently for work. When I got there I was informed my booking didn’t include breakfast and this would be £17.50 per person per night. £140 for breakfast is completely ridiculous - particularly when I thought it was included.

The main meal and breakfast were ok. The price of breakfast was overpriced, I felt I had to take the large full breakfast to justify the price. Normally I would have toast or a pastry at that time in the morning which is not worth £15!
We enjoyed our stay, the room and hotel were lovely. The staff were very friendly too. Free meals for my little one was great!

Not that I used it but there is a nightly charge for using car park. £10 I believe.
The Apex is in a great location. Only a five minute walk from city centre, train and bus stations and overlooking the old harbour. All staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. The room was of a high standard, clean and spacious. We had breakfast on two occasions. There was plenty to choose from and the cooked options were lovely and served within a few minutes.

I think it would have been good to have a smaller breakfast option. We don't eat a lot in the morning, not enough to warrant paying £17.50 each for breakfast. The pool was nice, but not very roomy. the Sauna was full of men, every time I looked. I would not have felt comfortable going in there. The hotel looks nicer on the inside than it does outside, it looks like a 1970's block of flats from outside, but our room was much more modern, simple but stylish.
The room was spacious, and very clean. The location was perfect for us. The pool looked very clean. Everywhere we went in the hotel looked very clean and tidy. The staff were very helpful and welcoming.

Unfortunately the pool was closed for maintenance so my husband couldn’t have a birthday swim but reception gave us both free drinks, thank you.
Location, room, staff and food all very good. We had room 515 a master suite and with the weather being so bad it was good to be able to relax in our own lounge, added bonus of a 2nd toilet . The free car park at rear is a bonus too.

Junior Suite room was spotless and amazing. Spa and pool the same. Every staff member friendly and helpful - thanks to Ewan who checked us in again. Good location and value for money. Will be back soon.

Nothing, it was perfect for our 1 night stay
Consistently good hotel, we have used it a few times now, as its local to us, but handy for staying in Dundee. On this occasion staff were super helpful and we really appreciated the early check in. Facilities are spotless as always, the rooms are great. We never have an issues staying here, and will always recommend.

Spa facilities are amazing. Also had an evening meal here and it was delicious. 2nd time staying here and both times the food has been perfect for us. All staff were amazing. Tried the cheesecake cocktail loved it!!
