Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaUnfortunately the lift was broken which staff said was a regular occurrence. Staff were helpful to transport bags, but unfortunately made it challenging particularly with a baby and pram.

Little gem of a place. Room was large and comfy and clean. The vegan breakfast was really appreciated and really tasty. Love the style of the place and it's in a lovely quiet location with a castle view. Would stay again.

AustriaThe Windows are old, so it is quite Hard to Open them and there is little Space To put things in the bathroom. That was the only downside of the room for us.
We had a room on the top Floor , the view was gorgeous! The Lift didn't work, so mit recommended for people that can't climb that many Stars. For us it was no Problem. We didn't hear anything from our neighbours Other than them locking or opening their rooms. Breakfast was very very good, especially the cooked breakfast!!

United StatesThe lift was broken. I didn’t mind taking the stairs to our 3rd floor room; however, I saw elderly guests that this was difficult for. I hope that can be fixed soon to make this an exceptional place to stay. The toilet in Room 312 did not flush correctly. I reported it and the receptionist told us a trick in flushing it “as the plumbing is old”. Her trick didn’t work and it was a concern of sanitation.
Lovely area of town. Beautiful lobby with access to bar and opportunity to sit in the library at our convenience. Loved the “Old World Charm”! Thank you for the free coffee and tea options in the lobby at any time. Staff was excellent! Receptionists were wonderful and our breakfast hostess was delightful!

United KingdomThis is my second visit to this hotel I came back as I loved my first visit so much. I feel that over the last year the decor has suffered a little particularly in the corridors and staircases. The water pressure in our room was also very low. Unfortunately parking is expensive and very limited in the area and I feel central Edinburgh is better to visit by public transport and this is the price you pay for such a nice location I guess. This is absolutley not the hotels fault (just an observation or hint really) the first time I stayed I travelled up by train.
I love the feel of this hotel and the friendly staff. The breakfast was good and it was served in the beautiful dining room. The room was a good size. Staff let us leave our bags in the hotel prior to check in to save us having to walk a long way from a carpark and had very kindly delivered them to our room. We were put in a better room on a lower floor because the lift was out of order. The hotel is very well situated to visit both Edinburgh old and new towns and the back rooms look mover the gorgeous Dean village and out to the Firth of Forth whereas the front rooms have a view if the castle. I love the bar and the absolutely adorable library. Free tea and coffee and water in the reception

IndiaI felt the house keeping could have done a better job. Amenities weren't replenished.
The staff was very helpful especially Nadir. The lift was not working and they had allocated a room to us on the 4th floor, but the next day they adjusted and changed our room to make it more convenient. The breakfast is good and has all the regular stuff you would expect. The location is good and about a 12-13 minute walk from the prices street / town centre.

United StatesIt was really hot while we were there and couldn't open the windows more than a crack. Our fan helped but we didn't have the outlets available to place it properly. Also, not your fault, but elevators did not work and we had a very heavy bag. The reception desk did offer to bring up any bags.

United StatesOur room was on the lower level and tended to be warmer than expected. There was no place to set toiletries in the bathroom. No shelves or cabinets at all. The duvet cover was heavy and way too much for the stay. A summer weight blanket would have been sufficient. The location of the hotel was close to shops and restaurants but was quiet and in a residential area. Staff friendliness varied from exceptional to lukewarm. The gent checking us in and out was lukewarm. He did not thank us for our stay. Other staff was helpful, offering suggestions for dining and helped carry our bags to the room.
The room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. Plenty of room to lounge. The breakfast choices were plentiful and the dining room staff was helpful and quick to bring out the food.
