Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomLovely owner who showed us around the cottage and was close by and responsive to any issues. The cottage is light and peaceful, with fantastic views of the cathedral, well-heated and well-equipped.

United KingdomThis is an old cottage property and it would not be possible to improve it without ruining the character of the building.
Compact cottage property with all modern facilities. Good location - just a short walk to city centre. Comfortable accommodation , perfect for our short stay.

BermudaSmall criticism: Bathroom on ground floor: I’d rather there was a loo upstairs but there’s not really space.
Super comfy beds and sofas. The location was perfect for getting around Winchester and visiting historic sites and local trails. The views of Winchester Cathedral from the bedrooms were beautiful. Recommend.

United KingdomThe property is old (grade 2 listed) so you need to be aware that the ceilings are lower than modern houses (especially upstairs), and in a couple of places in the upper bedrooms, the roof lines have interesting angles that will catch the unwary head of taller people (especially at night). Parking is only available in dedicated places within the area (permit-based) so you may not be able to park close to the property, so you need to be prepared to walk to-and-fro when loading/unloading luggage/children etc.
We like Winchester a lot, and this visit was enhanced by choosing to stay at this cottage, rather than one of the many hotels located in the heart of the city. The property is ideally located (just a 10 minute walk from the city centre), and is situated on a relatively quiet no-through road, so traffic is light. It is light and airy throughout, and has a warm cosy feel to it, with a unique decorative charm that is a welcome change to the universal blandness of modern properties. The rear yard is a little small and enclosed, however there are some superb open green spaces just a minute or so walk away, so if you are travelling with a dog who prefers grass to hard standing (as ours does) then you are well catered for. Winchester is an expensive place to visit, stay (and live). This cottage is probably at the premium end of the price range, however it does provide an excellent location and good range of facilities for the visitor.

United KingdomAlthough we had a parking permit to park in a permitted area on the street it was dependant on whether there was space available. This did affect me as I was inclined to walk rather then drive as I didn't want to find there was no available parking spaces on my return.
Real nice Cottage, great location, sufficient facilities, decent size rooms., easy walking distance from the high street. I would definitely stay again but would bring my family with for a mini break. The activities on the high street was full of life with all types of families despite the horrendously miserable weather.

GermanyNo dislike, just a hint: If you have trouble with stairs then you might have a hard time in Winchester at all (it's hilly) and with the cottage in special. The shortest way to the cottage is a steep road (alternatives available) and the stairs from ground floor to the bedrooms are more steep than you might be used to. (if you aren't familiar with old houses)
Very friendly contact to the owner just around the corner, easy to reach the central city or the nearest bus stations. (Train station is a little away, but no problem to reach by bus or a longer walk.) The cottage itself is an old house with sloping wooden beams, but it has a warm and cosy atmosphere. Winchester has kept a lot of his historical charme and this cottage adds perfectly to it. Good to know: Gas oven is there, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer and two seperate bedrooms (4 beds in total).

United KingdomCould have done with more information on how the appliances and heating worked. The courtyard garden out the back was lovely but if you have a dog with you it would be useful to have a patch of greenery or gravel for them to wee on so you don't have to take them down the road last thing at night.
Very comfortable cottage, in a very good location. It felt friendly and welcoming. We had a lovely visit and would definitely stop again.
