Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomI got what I paid for (and more). The room was functional with shared facilities (that were very clean and regularly serviced)
Great value for money, friendly staff and an exceptional breakfast. Its a music college so there is music in the air and the atmosphere is harmonious. Good location. A big house surounded by trees and flowers only 5 minutes walk from the station.

United KingdomWater pressure on shower was a bit on the low side (room 6 in lodge). Gravity fed hot water system in place - water pressure could be fixed quite easily with a boost pump providing the hot water cylinder has enough capacity to not run out of hot water with extra water use! Plumbing was occasionally a bit noisy in the lodge - but nothing to get concerned about.
Very comfortable, clean, cosy yet airy room. Very quiet - got a very good sleep each night. Great location for my needs. Very helpful, friendly staff. Decent breakfast. Beautiful main building. Quaint lodge. Good value.

United KingdomThe vegetarian sausages were awefull. I am not a fan of fake meat products, I will eat them when away partially as an experiment, partially because they can be the only source of protein in a meal. The sausages served were particularly bad, like eating sawdust. I do not smoke, drink or eat meat, but I do like good coffee. I tried the coffee, both in the room and at breakfast, I do not expect much at the budget so I dont wish to be negative, I'm just glad I brought my own.
Quiet. I am a very light sleeper, excessive noise from traffic, the constant rumble of air conditioning, guests arriving/returning after midnight all cause me problems. Benslow was very quiet. I will book Benslow the next time I am in Hitchin, or on my way to an airport.

United KingdomNo TV, although this is very clearly communicated in the property information. I might have preferred breakfast service to have started slightly earlier, but I always take time for cooked breakfast here.
Free guest parking. High quality cooked breakfast. Large double room with perfectly adequate shared bathroom facilities. Good provision of hot drink tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Free toiletries. Towels provided at no extra charge.

United KingdomNo TV, but this is very clearly indicated in the property facilities provision information. A slightly earlier sit-in breakfast would have suited me better personally, however, in an effort to accommodate earlier breakfast requirements I have been offered a breakfast bag to takeaway during a previous stay here, which admittedly I didn't take up as I was looking forward to their cooked breakfast.
Great location for Hitchin railway train station. Well situated for hassle-free departure by private car during the morning rush hour. Good cooked breakfast. Private ensuite room. Convenient free parking.

United KingdomFelt £60 was a little much for a room that isn't ensuite. I think ~£50ish would have been more reasonable.

United KingdomOur room was comfortable with a big shower room - bear in mind the is mainly a centre for music courses so is not exactly hotel level finish and decor - but we didn't expect that. Breakfast was great and plentiful - lots of fruit and a very nice cooked selection. the staff were all lovely, welcoming and friendly. There is no food served for B&B visitors in the evening but lots of great places to eat in Hitchin.

United KingdomThe location is quietly tucked away not far from the railway station, with plenty of parking for cars. The breakfast is excellent and the staff are friendly and helpful. Not your run of the mill sterile traveling hotel, and if you can live a shared bathroom and without a TV and settle with a good book, and don’t mind a 10 minute walk to town it’s fantastic value.

United KingdomThe rooms are dated but then they don't profess to be anything else. Really missed a television in the room. Bar doesn't open until 2130 and cooked breakfast doesnt start until 0745 but they do provide a breakfast bag.
The staff are amazing and couldn't be more attentive to your needs. 10 out of 10. Bed was super comfortable. Would have loved to join the musicians to listen to their music but I wasn't sure if it was allowed or not but I could have asked I suppose.
