Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomPerfection. Nothing to add here.
Lovely stylish pub hotel and restaurant. Lovely service and historic building. Great food and beer. Beautiful sunny garden. Lovely dinner and breakfast. Perfectly located for the half way mark of my hike along the South Downs Way. I will come back sometime for a mini break.

United KingdomHaving been given the dessert menu, no one came to take my order, which was disappointing. Additionally, breakfast started at 0900 which meant neither nor my friend (hiking companion) were able to partake of it as we had to leave before then.
The general layout, decor, and cleanliness of the inn - exceptional. The check-in / initial briefing which was quick and usefully informative.

United KingdomWe really enjoyed our stay but when we had dinner there and breakfast we didn't get served any food until we'd been there an hour. This was specifically irritating at breakfast when they'd asked us to specify the time we'd like breakfast but didn't serve it until one hour later. An apology would have been appreciated but even when my friend paid for her breakfast & was asked how it had been, & replied " very slow service", she received no apology! This comes across as rather arrogant.
Location lovely. Food was very good and wine list good.

United KingdomWe called ahead about dinner service on Sunday and was told that the kitchen closed at four we said that we probably wouldn’t get there until after four and they advise that we should eat at someplace else However, when we got there, we found out that The kitchen was open till six. Unfortunately, we had already made other commitments for the dinner and could not back out of those commitments But we would’ve preferred to eat at the Blackhorse

United KingdomBreakfast starts a little too late/ service is a little slow if you’re a walker or catching an early train.
The Black Horse is very laid back and stylish home from home, where we relaxed with a pint in the garden room at the end of our South Downs trail. The fresh milk is a nice touch and the rooms were comfortable and very fresh. We were pleasantly surprised by the good quality of the Nyetimber but English sparkling wine is still comparatively expensive to a cremant. We like this place so much we started the second half of our walk at Eastbourne so we could finish in Amberley again. Lovely food to celebrate and delightful staff. We will be back for a third time!

United KingdomNowhere to dry muddy boots, coats, and wet clothes. This would have been a particularly welcome addition as we were walking in British weather! Butter pats were too thick to be served straight from the fridge and would not spread, even on hot toast!
Easy to find and not far off the South Downs Way. Felt comfortable as well as luxurious. Food excellent.

United KingdomBeautiful location but if no car then very limited in what to do there as quite remote. Food was really lovely but menu could do with more variety as not everyone likes fish.
Breakfast was lovely but would be better if continental breakfast included cheese and ham instead of just jams. Staff especially friendly and helpful. Warm, cosy and quirky place. Would go again.

AustraliaThe only downside was that the shower in our room leaked and made the bathroom floor wet. We could see the bathroom had been recently renovated and so it was a shame to see the potential for water damage from the shower not draining correctly and the consequential slight musty smell.
We had a beautiful one night stay at this accommodation - our room was both quaint and comfortable. We stayed during the British "heat wave", and our room had a fan which ensured we were able to keep cool during the night as our window opened onto the street. The restaurant was lovely and we especially enjoyed eating in the courtyard and seeing all the fairy lights come on in the evening. We had a lovely time walking around town and seeing all the thatched cottages, it was perfect for a quiet early morning walk. Breakfast was lovely and the waitress even made a special request Iced Chocolate with Oat Milk

United KingdomThe breakfast room didn't seem to work very well, not very relaxing when it's a main thoroughfare for deliveries.
This was a lovely stay, was very impressed with the greeting we received, very thorough and more places should do it. The room we had was brilliant, lots of space, tastefully decorated and a very comfortable bed. The wi-fi and tv worked well as did the kettle and always nice to have water left in the room. Then bathroom was spacious and clean and everything worked. We also ate in the restaurant and the food was lovely, the superfood salad was a real highlight.

United KingdomWe were staying at the Black Horse for a wedding in the local area. The hotel was excellent, stylishly decorated and situated in the really pretty village of Amberley. We had an evening meal and breakfast in the restaurant, the food was fantastic. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The location is ideal for visiting Arundel and the surrounding countryside. We would thoroughly recommend the Black Horse!
