Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe noise from the A1 was constant. I'm glad I took earplugs. The room wasn't absolutely clean, with dead woodlice in the bathroom. The room decor was shabby, but okay in the breakfast room. We didn't like being asked if we "had many immigrants where we came from", (South West Wales). We thought this inappropriate and didn't understand why we'd been asked. Further conversation from the staff member did make us wonder if there were racist undertones.
The breakfast was very good. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The beds were comfortable.

United KingdomFor the forgetful traveller, some shower gel sachets would be excellent.
A fine old country house, very welcoming hosts, lovely generous breakfast. Very spacious and comfortable room. Shower worked, if a little underpowered! (Some sachets of shower gel or similar would be appreciated) . Amazing location right on the A1. Folks with good hearing (therefore not me) might find traffic noise an issue but I slept soundly. Outstanding value.

United KingdomGreat find! This is a great and comfortable bed and breakfast, not a 5 star hotel, run in their own home. Good size room, king size bed, chest of drawers, chair, dressing table, wardrobe, bedside drawers, mini fridge, good size tv and large en-suite bathroom. Decent size tv has freeview and various streaming apps, mini fridge has water, Diet Pepsi, larger and wine. Towels and bedding are not new but clean and functional. Yes there is noise from the A1 because you are right next to it. There is double glazing but some noise does get through in the background and does almost stop through the night. Breakfast was not too big or small, 3 x thick/normal bacon, nice sausage, egg, mushrooms, beans, tomato, toast and coffee. There is a buffet with cereal, fresh fruit, fruit juice, fruit salad with fresh strawberries and jams. The people who run the place are very friendly and welcoming. They are knowledgeable about the history of this 17c coaching house. Even Queen Victoria stopped here on her travels to and from Scotland, in room No.1 Lots of off road parking towards the back of the property. Plenty of local hostelries in the surrounding area to eat at and places to visit. Yes we would stay here again.

United KingdomBeing on the A1, the traffic can be heard. Certainly from a front room like mine. But, it's not overly loud and becomes background noise very quickly. I did not find it an issue at all (and it wouldn't put me off returning), but some people may so thought I ought to mention it.
Large spacious double room and bathroom in a lovely old house. I was working at Burghley for the weekend and left before breakfast so can't comment on that, but the hosts were delightful. It's not a modern hotel so don't expect all the mod cons, but has everything anyone should need. The 'mini bar' is actually full size bottles of wine, beer and soft drinks! My dog was also allowed. I liked it for my 4 night stay and would certainly stay there again.

United KingdomProximity to the A1 (not evident from advertisement) meant considerable overnight noise. Rooms didn't suggest total cleanliness, and one or two domestic matters needed improvement. Quality of TV poor.
Very pleasant hosts who tried hard to make us welcome. Breakfast was speedy, substantial and pleasantly presented.

United KingdomA little bit more information for guests would be of great help I.e some information about the accommodation and it’s facilities other than just what other nearby facilities.
As I was leaving early for work the next day I asked if I could have a light breakfast to take with me The proprietor said he would ask his partner if it could be arranged. I didn’t receive anything the next day which was disappointing. A bit of communication would have been able to solve this as they could have told me if it was possible or not.

United KingdomStayed for 1 night as in area. Breakfast is amazing; hosts are so friendly and obliging. It is close to a1 road so you can hear traffic, but, coke 11pm the traffic isn’t too heavy at all; so hardly hear it. Great parking, big beautiful old coaching house, yes it perhaps needs updating but for £60 it’s ideal. I’ve read bad reviews but my experience was good. Don’t let other reviews put you off. I will use again when back in area.
