As soon as we opened the front door the overpowering damp foisty smell hit us, my wife was almost physically sick. The furnishings and bedding felt damp and overall very dated. But the smell, we bought plug in air fresheners but these hardly made any difference. The cottage in my opinion wasn't fit for human habitation we left a day early and on unpacking the clothes we hadn't used but were hung in the wardrobe these had the same foisty smell. The beds were far too firm and the single duvets too small, there were no instructions on how to get the heating on, the hot tap in the kitchen flowed at a trickle at best, the hand held shower head was broken. The steps up to the garden were treacherous even in dry conditions. We are both frontline NHS workers and looked forward to our first break for two years, my wife wanted to return home after two nights, a premier inn would have been a luxury compared to Bracken lodge at a fraction of the cost. Please please please address the smell issue before you let anymore guests stay there.

Location was good, although signage to cottage was poor.
