There is no elevator, due to listed status, and I have some mobility issues but manager the wide staircase

We really appreciated the friendliness and civility of the staff -- also the historic associations of this unique property

Tiredness as it wasn’t that cheap to stay there. There appeared to be a number if digs wandering free and pooing on communal grassed areas!!

Lodge was a good size for 4 but looking a little tired in places - especially bathroom and bedrooms.

We were on one of the newly renovated rooms. No lights by the beds and the sockets were low for the kettle so we had to put it on the floor to use.

    Fabulous place, very special

The rooms are massive but there’s hardly any furniture in the rooms, no towel hooks, no chest of drawers or comfy chairs. There’s so much potential to dress the rooms and make them more comfortable. The continental breakfast was really bad, just white bread, jams and a bit of fruit.

The views, the property’s character, the beautiful drive, the size of the rooms, the staff and the location were just wonderful.

Cold, could have made more of the property, having the large fireplace lite would have been nice! Noise of the water heater overnight in the room, having a fridge with no ice ( why bother) and no full mirror !!

Super building, great views and engaging staff especially Karen !!

Kitchen equipment eg, frying pan tiny, no spatula nothing to dish food up with. The point of self catering is to cook yourself but this would be very limited with equipment.

    Comfy beds, cosy, spacious.

Lack of heating in public area, never really cold but neither were we comfortable warm. Some furniture and fittings getting to the end of their working life. Stained chairs and carpet in main dinning area. Getting the pool back in service is a must.

History, staff and locaruon. Ease of getting into Canterbury and other tourist attractions

Price of beer & rum. Didn't eat here, so I can't comment on that

Beers a little expensive, expect I suppose, lodge was clean, tidy, comfortable & warm, there are signs of its age here & there, quite well maintained overall. Price was pretty much comparable with a 3 night stay in the holiday inn or premier inn with so much more space & comfort 2 bathroons too, if we are ever in the area again probably the first place we'll look to stay, centrally located for all what we wanted to do over the 3 days we had in kent.

A fuse blew in the room late in the evening which meant we couldn't watch television or use the kettle or heater, so by the morning the water was on the cold side, although we actually didn't mind a cold shower. I'm sure had we gone down to disturb the front desk staff, they would have tried to repair the fuse, but we chose not to get dressed again and do that, and just went to bed. Admittedly, we didn't realise that meant we wouldn't be able to take advantage of the delicious tea, coffee and biscuit assortment that was available for an in-room breakfast the next morning because we couldn't boil the kettle, but that simply made the superb breakfast all the more welcome. The telephone in the room wasn't connected, otherwise we could have used that. The pizza option in the restaurant was a little disappointing, but the rest of the menu was first class. It was also a little disappointing to find that the pool was out of service. We shall certainly come again when it's up and running again and enjoy a swim.

The linguini was superb! The Kitchener Room was amazing! The front desk staff were friendly, welcoming, informative and helpful. We are definitely planning to revisit. It was a wonderful stay! The children loved the tennis courts and the Easter-themed trail in the grounds. The front desk staff told us about Lord Kitchener, who bought the house in 1911, and we enjoyed the connection to history that made the stay all the more special. The nearby attractions of Canterbury, Deal and Dover Castle were also fantastic. All in all, it was a fantastic mini-break!

The lodge was a wreck and had numerous faults and issues. For somewhere supposedly a premium resort the standards of the lodge was appaling. The lodges are desperately in need of renovation. I’m amazed that none of the issues within the lodge were picked up on preparation. A travelodge would have been better for half as much cost

A few v minor issues easily sorted. 1) no tissues in room. Could do with a bin in the main area. 2) would like to see less single use plastic -eg shower & shampoos in fixed larger containers & grab handle in shower 3) fresh milk promised by using card on door but none delivered .

Very comfortable accommodation, good food, attentive staff and beautiful location. Newly refurbished rooms excellent.
