Nice castle experience but the breakfast is a joke

The breakfast completely spoiled the experience for us, which would otherwise have been 10/10. We had to wait over an hour for two bits of supermarket bread and two poached eggs, eventually served just before 10am. The man serving was really friendly and trying his very best, but he was completely overwhelmed as he had no help at all – he was visibly shaking as he ran here and there. He had to make every single coffee and tea from the espresso machine, clear tables, seat people, bring the food... Meanwhile, his colleague sat like a potato at the reception desk not even offering to help. And there was no continental buffet, no ability to make your own coffee or tea, no nothing, so we sat there for over an hour waiting while we were desperate to leave for a long hike. The menu said "selection of yoghurts, fruits and muesli" but there was only a small bowl containing three rock-hard kiwis, a single bowl of granola and a jug of milk. It was a total joke and it put a sour taste on the whole experience.

It's a beautiful castle, nicely done up and in a super spot. You can walk a little down the street and up into the hills. Very quiet. The restaurant (just opened in March) is good and the man who was in charge of serving there was extremely friendly. There was hardly anything for veggies – only halloumi salad – but the chef agreed to cobble us together a mix of the veggie starter and some sides.

Bathroom was a little old and tired but more than adequate. Breakfast service was an issue both days. Both days it was very slow with only one person valiantly trying to greet guests, take orders, serve drinks and food and clear the tables of a dining room full of people on his own! The cooked breakfast was ok content wise but the first day it was cold and had to be sent back. There was fruit but no access to self service tea/coffee. No pastries. No cereal apart from granola. People were waiting a long time for their breakfast and sometimes being forgotten. The staff member was doing his best to juggle everything and was very apologetic for the long wait but it really needed two people to ensure a positive start to the day for the guests.

Very quirky building nestled at the foot of a mountain on the outskirts of Stirling. We stayed in a large light airy, double bedroom with a huge very comfortable bed which we loved. Staff were helpful.

The hotel decoration is slightly tired and the hotel would benefit from clear signage from the nearby Stirling road.

Spacious, warm and comfortable and very clean room. Good location on the side of the Ochil Hills. The restaurant provided well prepared and good value evening meal.

nothing that we didnt not like, the furnishings and carpet are a bit dated but that didn't change how excited we were to stay in a castle..and the rooms are spacious and comfortable!

Breakfast was great, we also ate in the restaurant when we arrived, felt like it was a great value and the food was good, the best part is we didn't' have to venture out for dinner. Staff was amazing, from check in to the restaurant!!

The lift wasn’t working and we had big bags to carry upstairs. The shower was poor, and tricky to work out the taps etc.

It was a great looking property. We chose it because of its proximity to Edinburgh and the need to catch a flight. Having a bar and restaurant on site was good as the hotel was not anywhere near the centre. The restaurant was excellently, staff were very efficient and helpful and friendly.
