How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The property is really well located, just half a block to Lisburn Road shops and restaurants. It is also just a very short walk from Adelaide Street Railway Station so accessing public transport is a dream. The house is lovely and warm which we appreciated on a winter Belfast stay. It is a very quiet street and very comfortable. Be aware there are steep steps to access the first floor.

Was very cold when we got there. It took almost the whole day for the rooms to warm up after we switched on the heating. Once the rooms warmed up it was fine.
Accomodation was very cozy. Very clean and tidy. Elegantly furnished. Excellent location with all amenities nearby. Parking was easy on the street. The host had kindly agreed to let us check in an hour ahead of the usual check in time. All queries were answered quite promptly by the host via the booking.com messaging site.

My four-day stay in this cosy house in Belfast with my family was fantastic. From the moment we arrived, we were enveloped in a warm atmosphere that made us feel at home. The hospitality and attentiveness of the owner were also exceptional. She was incredibly responsive to our needs and inquiries. 2nd bedroom beds were squeaky and too soft. We struggled to turn on bathroom light ( needed a very hard thud on attached string) and dining room light was not working but host arranged for bulb to be changed in less than 15 minutes after we called. Very fast service. Was requested to strip bed linens upon checking out but I couldn't due to health constraints. Likely this may be a norm in Belfast but so far, I have not encountered this requirement in other cities. Staircase is steep and narrow and may be difficult for some elderlies.
Fantastic location with restaurants, cafes and Tesco nearby and direct train and bus into the city. Surroundings appear safe and we did not stay out late at night. Good sized apartment with street side free parking (parking spots are fully filled at night ). The double bed is comfortable and kitchen well equipped. Heating is adequate.

Some small issues with maintenance that have been reported to the property owners in private messages, but nothing that impacted our stay at all.
Great location, clear effort on part of the host to make us feel welcome. House was well provided with amenities and all aspects of the property were functional and clean.

Great location with everything close by. Shops restaurants etc . It also has a bus route into city centre very close . The house had everything you needed and the host Zoe was very helpful. She had left a book of useful information about restaurants etc in the area which was great.

Very handy for buses and train into town bus cheap at all day travel for £3. Great facilities at the top of road just a 2 min walk away. Street was quiet. The host left us a lovely card and welcome gift very much appreciated and unexpected

We really had a very good time at Brookland house. The house is located in a very nice and quiet area a few bus stops away from the city center. The interior is very cozy and makes you feel at home immediately.. we strongly recommend !

There were some issues with the plumbing, but to be fair, Zoe cancelled a plumber (who I expect would have fixed these things) so we could check in ahead of the usual time.
Zoe was so helpful and accommodating, the location was exactly what we needed: 1 minute from the train & there was a fab place for coffee & breakfast on the corner of the road.
