How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

The rooms were a bit worn. Parking was limited and very tightly packed.
Hotel is in a great location in the center of the village. Breakfast was good with lots of options. Dinner at the restaurant was good but not outstanding. Staff was mostly helpful but also moving at a relaxed pace.

Unable to get any snacks at all from the bar. Not even a packet of crisps or nuts. The music in the bar was loud and could be heard very easily in the room we were staying in. The music went on until just after 10pm.

We loved everything! The hotel itself is a gorgeous Cotswolds cosy welcoming place. Spotlessly clean throughout. Amazing Italian restaurant on-site. The staff were polite, friendly and helpful. Simone on reception is an absolute delight and made us feel right at home the minute we walked in.

the noise from outside and above of the room.
the location is superb as this property is at the heart of burton on the water. it also has its own parking space. the room is ok but as the old building so you can hear some noise from outside. staffs are great and they serve a huge portion of breakfast.

WiFi was frustratingly bad, very poor signal which was especially bad in our bedroom and dropped out a lot. No phone signal either so we relied on WiFi.
Lovely hotel. Staff really nice and friendly. Food at breakfast and in the evening was very nice. Such a good location for us to explore from.

Room a little dated and could do with an upgrade.

Too few plug receiver and USB charging points
Free car park which the big advantage because hotel located in the prime area with few steps to reach village center, decent breakfast, room and restaurant. Staff is lovely.

We didn't expect so many tourists to be in town!
We enjoyed our stay at the Chester House, just a block from the waterway that is the centerpiece of Bourton-on-the-Water in the Cotswolds. We especially appreciated its dedicated parking area, since we arrived in a rental car on a day quite crowded with tourists and no clue where to park. The hotel was surprisingly quiet for being so close to the center, but also well-situated for walking around the quaint town and enjoying its charm. The breakfast was lovely.

Other than the quirks of the period of the property which come part and parcel with staying in this location, there was nothing to dislike!! You just need to be aware, there are tight (with sometimes low ceilings) hallways, and narrow car parks, however very lucky to have parking
Location is amazing in the heart of Bourton-on-the-water. We enjoyed a comfortable room, clean and modern bathroom, in a great location.

The rooms were a bit dated (carpet) and not great soundproofing between rooms. We unfortunately had a screaming toddler next to us that made our stay less relaxing.
Really nice stay here. Lovely staff, great breakfast, close to all of Bourton’s attractions.

At times we could hear noise from the kitchen through the walls. Hot taps had to be run for two or three minutes before hot water came through, but it did eventually deliver.
Our room was well appointed and had a very comfortable bed. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Location was excellent, less than a minute walk from the heart of the village.
